One of the popular GoldWing magazines had an article stating that it was a - simple process to have the rear wheel machined to properly fit the bead of a car tire - ................. so just curious if anyone has done this on an ST1300 and wondering if it's even possible

I darkside with a GYTT , whatever rim bead is there , the rubber tire conforms to it , being under air pressure . ( If the tire was a hard material also - yeah, then it would be more of a sealing problem .)

None have the dark siders here have posted doing so. You might go to Forums > ST Technical >Tires, Wheels > Darkside and peruse the threads. If someone has done this, it will be there.

Not necessary and might weaken the rim. I am on my 4th CT, now BF Goodrich comp-2 getting 40 k miles per tire. It is a joy to ride at 26 psi.
