Hi there,

Im a recent new owner of a 1999 ST1100 Pan European. I figured out the other night my headlights aren’t working along with the dash / dial lights.

What do people think the culprit is? A fuse perhaps as it’s both?

My high beam still works.

All the best

Are your tail lights and your running light working?
Does the ST1100 have a police switch on the right hand side?
First thing I would do is remove the seat, the left pannier and the left side panel.
Then open the cover on the fuse block to the right of the battery and put a test light or meter and check all the fuses.

Unless none of the fuses are blown .... ;)
Well, a possible scenario:
- low beams are likely to go as they're always on; bumpy roads accelerate the decay...
- one low beam went out already some time ago, unnoticed by the operator...
- when the filament of the second bulb finally blew as well, it dropped unlucky and created a momentary short...
- now you're scratching your head over two low beams and a fuse being blown... ;)

But as the PO is located in UK, aggressive brine from winterly roads (paired with the known innate aversion of washing their vehicles 😏) might have created all kinds of havoc...

I'd start with checking bulbs, fuses, backside of fusebox, handlebar switch-pods and dig deeper and deeper from there...

I too have an issue with my dash lights, and the left running light on my 2002 ABSII, however, both my headlights function. I will admit to having difficulty isolating the issue. With the aid of the electrical schematic drawings, I tried following the path and where my issue is. I think it’s in the left handlebar control switch pod. In the meantime I have tapped into another positive feed and spliced that into my left running lamp, and that has restored my dash lights and running light.
My goal is to resolve the issue during the winter months.

Just getting the ST going; new oil and filter,I noticed that, if I pull the brake handle, the brake light does not illuminate but if I step on the brake pedal it does; wondering if this has always been the case, maybe adds cause to why I've been a bit more agressive with people coming up beihind me on this bike; who knew?

I had exactly the same problem a while back. Front brake switch checked out ok, but would not light the brake light - brake pedal did. Eventually traced it to the connector at the front under the tank shelter - follow the group of wires from the switch. Uplugged the connector and discovered one wire (green I think, (for the brake switch) had corrosion. Cleaned it up and all was good again.
