Anyone have any experience with this jacket?

Is it basically the same as the First Gear Killimanjaro II Air jacket?

Thanks in advance.

Timbuktu is not the same as FG. They have two versions - regullar and Air...

Both use thicker cordura than the FG. The Timbuktu uses a goretex liner - same as BMW suits....

I'd rather buy this one though..

There is a new jacket from FG that will be available in '05, that has few changes from the Kilimanjaro - sorry I didn't grab the info. The jacket was introduced at the Dealer Expo show this past weekend. Your local dealer should know more soon. The jacket will be available to him through Tucker Rocky Dist.....

I think it's an evolution of the Kilimanjaro. Sorry can't find any pictures of it yet....

Cheers,

I have both jackets... Yeah,,, I know,,, my wife already told me I am sick...

I ride in Cold/Cool weather with The Timbuktu Jacket,,, and plan on riding warm/hot with the Timbuktu Air jacket...

Hein Gericke/Firstgear should sponsor me I have so much stuff from them!!!

Shame and embarrassment prevents me from posting just HOW FRIGG'N Many jackets I own right now...

Casey, the sheltex liner in the air jacket.... does it stop at your waist or is it a little longer? Thanks

I know this is a bit off topic, but here is the new First Gear Crossmoto jacket

Combination 330/500 denier ballistic nylon with SafeStitch construction.
Waterproof/breathable ShelTex zip-out liner.
Temperfoam armor in elbows and shoulders, with EVA back pad.
9 pockets total.
Aggressive adventure-touring styling.

Cheers,

I wish someone beside Aerostitch made the Hi-viz yellow jacket. I really would like one, but the idea of $500 for a jacket is a greater sticker shock than motorcycle prices.

Timbuktu Air

After looking at my options, I've decided on a Timbuktu Air. The Kili air has been discontinued and the Darien is over my budget for now. Do many of you have this jacket?

The liner stops about 3 inches below my waist and the jacket extends below that to mid-thigh. It does a good job of weather protection.

Hein Gericke is good quality stuff and I believe it is not currently distributed in the US (since January 2007). Therefore, there are lots of good bargains out there right now (e-bay). I have three of their jackets, and I like them all.

Hello,

Timbuktu Air. I just bought one of these used from Terry (Austin City Limits). I have only worn it once but it seems to be very well made and it was comfortable in temps from 88 down to 65 - without the liner in. I also think it looks extremely sharp. Haven't had a chance to test it in cooler/wet weather yet. Good luck.

I see..Have you checked the pockets for moonshine? Just kidding. Terry is the reason I'm getting it. He has numerous jackets, and trust his opinion.

Hei Gericke make class gear, I have 3 of their jackets, 2 trousers and 2 pairs of gloves and all work as advertised and are excellent bits of gear. They make a dayglow yellow jacket (luminous yellow) which has now been adopted by many police units here in the UK.
