Helmets Helmet decaling project

My helmet was the last one on the shelf with a great sale price (the shop discontinued selling Nolan's in favor of scorpions). But unfortunately it was an all black with no reflectors style marketed to cruisers.

An all black helmet is not safe in my book, and not having reflectors is illegal in Maryland, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, South Carolina, and Vermont.

So starts the project.

We bough one sq. yard of white and another of black reflective sticker from a sign shop.

Rose took on the helmet project and here is the first draft.

I got the black lightning bolt decals for my Evoline 2. They look like they were there from factory and are very reflective/visible at night.

I looked at the decal sites, but wanted something more unique a this is pretty fun. Maybe with my next bike I'll pick a theme and stick to it, because currently I am all over the place. =-]

I think you should be cautious with these unique and fancy reflective designs.

You may require some reflective tape, but too much could prove to be dangerous.

There is some real concern that your fancy design could actually cause you to be hit.

Just the opposite of what you are trying to achieve.

Its called fixation, where the approaching driver becomes so focused on trying to see the pattern that they actually forget to brake and hit you.

It has happened to large trucks with pictures on the rear or patterns of lights.

Not sure how much stock I would put in thier site being 100% correct ?? As in Md I have never heard of the reflective thing and the MVA says this about helmet requirements , http://www.mva.maryland.gov/MVA-Programs/moto/protgear.htm

I did something similar with my new AGV Miglia. One trick; take some thin paper and lay out your design on the helmet. You can cut shapes to work with the curves, tape them down, then use a pen/pencil/marker to fine tune the shapes. 3M reflective material will not stretch so you may have to cut reliefs in it too, depending on contours.
