Helmets Helmet Washing!

1- Remove face shield and clean separately (I use Black Lab)
2- Fill a laundry tub or really big bucket with enough warm water to cover helmet.
3- Add a small amount of Woolite or Johnson Baby Shampoo.
4- Dunk the helmet, plunging it up and down and around in the suds.
5- Drain helmet and dump out dirty water.
6- Rinse helmet twice with clean, warm water.
7- Pat helmet liner dry with a towel.
8- Set helmet in a dry, warm place to dry.* Do not use a hair dryer or other heat. A fan is OK.
9- When it's dry, install visor and go ride. Mmmmm, smells like new!

* I like to do this on one of those really dry, winter days when I know I won't be riding for a few days. If you live in Santa Fe almost any day will do. If you live in Biloxi you might grow mushrooms. Use your own judgement.

Okay, I'm baffled. How did this thread, from 2011, survive the "Thread Thinning"? :unsure-2x:

My uneducated guess is the way the backups and cleanup runs....

There are lots of old backups (snapshots) of things that never change, or are old. They'd be the same over time, thus easy to retrieve.

Snapshots of newer stuff are less frequent.

They might even be a backup of eveything from some point in time, then incremental backups of just what's changed.

There is a script that runs that does cleanups, such as for the coffee threads. The coffee threads have never lived on in perpetuity like other stuff. Storage space is $$ after all.

Let's say one of these cleanups runs amok. (which we know it can......) Anything not saved to a snapshot (backup) is now gone.

Say you do a backup every 24hrs night at midnight. If a cleanup ran at 23:59 and erased it all, you've lost almost 24hrs of posts, with no recourse.

I'm kind of guessing that, since there were no photos attached, might have something to do with it. :unsure-2x:

I've never owned a helmet that had a removable liner/padding --at least I don't think so ! ( ???)

One of my helmets is only 10 years old so maybe it does have that feature and I just don't know about it.

I got in the habit three years ago of always wearing a head scarf or helmet liner. I have four of them now and wash them about every third use --if I don't sweat in them noticeably. But if I am sweating in it on a hot day, it goes into the laundry basket as soon as I get home.
