Help! broken key in Ignition

It wont help with the broken key, but at least you can strt the bike once its out....

I am shocked he would recommend a lube like Triflow. I know it well. Almost every small arms weapon in the US Military inventory uses it. While I agree that regular lubing is good typically they don't recommend something like this because it can attract dirt which will gum up the pins. You typically use a Graphite lube on locks. That is what I have always used.

Another thing I noticed is that the key that broke on you was one of the aftermarket ones. I though they usually bent not broke. Hmm. That is what I am using. I guess it goes to show that no key is perfect.

As a locksmith I use Tri-Flow all the time on everything and use Graphite on only one type of commercial door lock. I hate working on a lock that has been shot with Graphite.

The key broke because you have two deep cuts there which is the weak point of the key. The factory ones will bend like that. Just make sure the key is in all the way before you turn it. The side bags are dangerous because you don't insert the key all the way in. Just be careful not to bend the key.

The ignition key must be cut on both sides to work.

I think even with the broken key stuck you should be able to turn the lock with a blade of some type in an emergency

I was in fact able to do this, but only once. The second time, it would not work - my assumption is that the broken piece slipped down further into the lock and it wouldn't turn anymore.

If the broken key goes down farther it won't work. You should be very careful in doing this it's almost a in case of emergency deal.

Hiya. Once the barrel was removed from the bike, how did the locksmith actually get the key out ? Was he able to push it out from underneath ? Thanks.
