I wouldn't normally post here, but I'm desperate for ideas:

I washed my Roadcrafter in NikWax TechWash. This product was recommended by Aerostich.

However, I pulled the suit out of the machine and it was absolutely COVERED in white, chalky residue that would not come off of the suit. It looks like it's covered with paint.

I called NixWax, and they said my water was too hard. At their advice, I washed the Roadcrafter again with water and a cup of white vinegar. After that, I bought another bottle of NikWax, and washed it again, this time using more NikWax to compensate for the hard water.

No go. The suit is now pasted in chalk.

I've washed it twice more in vinegar, and the TechWash is just not coming off of the suit. It looks horrible.

Has anyone had experience with TechWash like this? Is my suit a gonner? Any help to save my expensive suit would be greatly appreciated.

:pray1:

I washed a First Gear Kilimanjaro with NikWax TX.Direct Wash In as directed by NikWax and still had visible residue after two rinses. I still have some of the the TX.Direct left and when/if I use it again with my new Olympia jacket, I will use half as much specified.

It may be an exercise in futility, but I suggest getting in touch with "DantesDame" over on Sport-Touring.Net, for her opinion/help. She's a serious rider as well as a customer service rep with Nikwax, and even though you've already talked to them, she may may be able to help...maybe not, but what the heck....

Sure hope you can salvage your $$tich....

That doesn't sound too promising. :(

There's GOT to be a way to get the nikWax out...

+1 for Stich cleaning... for the $50, plus shipping, that may be the best bet ;)

Thanks for posting this BTW. I guess I'll stick to the spray on stuff... and try a small patch first

This from their site about "hard water"...

Does "hard" water affect the application of Nikwax cleaners and waterproofing products?
Rarely. If you have extremely hard water, using an additional capful of Nikwax cleaners will prevent formation of white residue from the calcium in your hard water.

Spray on stuff? Don't you want to wash the Rob-Stench out of the suit first? ;-)

Looks like baking soda will do the trick ;)

Run through a wash with only hot water (if allowed by manufacturer?s washing instructions).
Run a second wash using 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/2 cup vinegar in this second wash.
1/2 cup vinegar again in first rinse cycle.
Run a second rinse cycle with plain hot water.
Dry.

Baking Soda? Huh.

Aerostich care manual says:
Wash using the regular cycle, and a "warm" water setting. Use only mild powder detergents, wash-in water repellent products, or non-detergent soaps formulated specifically for outdoor fabrics. When using mild detergents, run the complete wash/rinse cycle a second or third time with no detergent.

Do you think the baking soda/vinegar trick will work in warm cycle? :shrug2:

Don't run hot then... run a warm rinse... then proceed...

Run warm were is says hot... you can run this procedure twice according to the site I got this from ;)

FYI... this is for, uh... for a delicate part of ones baby body... so you know it's safe for a Stich :D

I suppose if it can get...er...um... baby residue out, well, it should do fine with NikWax, eh?

I don't know how to get it out but I wash mine by hand instead of the washer and I have hard water. I've never had an issue. I'm not sure what is causing your issue. I always use the TekWash before I use the NixWax.

Actually they use it to get out other detergent residue... they also use Nikwax to waterproof the outer layers I guess  Kinda funny what you can find doing searches :D

If I can get the TekWash out of the suit again, I'll consider washing it by hand. Maybe I'll try soft water. I dunno. I'm feeling a bit gunshy.
