HELP: NikWax ruined my 'Stich!

Yeah.

NikWax paid to have it shipped to Seattle. They're looking at it to see what went wrong, and promised they'd make it right again.

Sounds like it was the combination of hard water and a top-loading machine; the front-loaders move the heavy suit better. But, I followed the instructions on the bottle for hard water/top-loading machine and still ended up with a coated suit.

However, last I heard, they want to be absolutely sure before they come to a conclusion. They did recommend that I take my suit and TechWash to a laundromat machine next time, though....

I'm pretty happy with the way they're taking care of me.

This is always good to hear about! Something you don't often hear about that often.

Colleen from NikWax told me that the suit has been cleaned, and now they're going to re-proof it for me before sending it back.

Apparently, the key to TechWash is a front-loading, or very large machine. A household top-loading machine simply can not move something the size of the 'Stich through the water, so it basically "floats" on top of the water instead of agitating.

So, I can't fault NikWax - and I certainly appreciate all of their help. Moreover, I'll be replacing my washer with a front-loader when it goes kaput. Until then, I'll be taking my 'Stich to the laundromat for all of it's baths. And, I'll probably keep using TechWash.

I just bought a front loader last year after moving up here (CO). Saves $$$ bigtime... clothes come out cleaner... last longer(less wear)... got $125 credit from city for water bill doing this too :bow1: And you can wash your own MC gear at the house :D

East,
I like it when companies stand behind their products. They, both, might have been able to resolve your problem differently but they wanted to see first hand exactly what it was. This is good for all of us when this is done.

I couldn't agree more.

Don't get me wrong: I wish that my 'Stich would've come out of the wash as well as it always has, but when everything went wrong, both companies were prompt and willing to help, and never doubted my claim.

One thing's for sure: My Roadcrafter is very broken in after all of this washing! :D

E P I L O G U E

30 minutes ago, FedEx arrived at my front door with my Roadcrafter. Colleen at NikWax had packed it up and sent it home again.

The first thing I saw on opening it was a supply of NikWax products. I was actually excited about some of the things I found, and I can't wait to try them out (does that sound odd considering what happened).

Anyhow, I pulled out my Roadcrafter, which was carefully wrapped in plastic and took it out.

"This can't be my suit," I thought. "It looks as new as the day I bought it, but broken in."

I'm elated. My Roadcrafter looks better than ever and it's waterproofed to the max.

So, my hat/helmet is off to NikWax - They have done the absolute best service to me as a customer that I've ever experienced.

I'll give 'em a Dancin' Chili for that one--> :hotpepper

Curious: What are you going to do differently next time you have to wash your suit?

Next time, I'll be sure that it's a front-loading machine (in order to handle the size and weight of the Roadcrafter), and I'll be sure it's hooked up to soft water.

In other words, I'll take my 'Stich and my TechWash to a laundromat.

Oh, and Colleen = DantesDame.
