Helmets Help with choseing a schuber C# or Shoei Neotec

Well I have been waiting on some travail pay to purchase a couple of new helmets and had kind of settled on the Shoei neotec then Revzilla.com decided to have a sell on the Schuberth C3's and now I can't decide what to get. Does anyone have any insight that they would like to share?

I have liked the C3 but I couldn't quiet decide on spending the money on them when the Neotech was cheaper and was in the same ball park as far as features and noise. I have review of both and I am still in the air I am getting my wife a new helmet too and we are the same size so I might order one of each. I really don't think that I can go wrong with either one and it depends on which on ends up being more comfortable. But a little help would ease my mind.
 
There's a bit more chin room in the Shoei, and a bit more clearance for the sunshade. I couldn't wear the C3, as my chin touched the front, and the sunshade wouldn't clear my glasses. Schuberth has a new C3 (not sure of the model) that's a bit roomier; I tried one on at the Austin MotoGP. I'm sure the sale helmets are the previous models.

I'd spend the extra money for the new Schuberth if it were better than the Shoei, but I can't see that it is. I've been wearing a Neotec for a while, and it's the best helmet I've ever owned. I don't think you'd be disappointed with it.

By the way: J&M can do a factory installation of a headset in the Shoei, and I believe they now have the same service available for the new Schuberth. It's a much neater installation than the do it yourself system; the receptacle for the upper chord passes through the helmet, rather than being clamped to the base of the helmet.

Same here, the Schuberth is so 'tight' that it actually suffocated me during the test fit in the shop... and since the Styrofoam shell didn't fit my scull anyway (painful pressure spots), it went right back into the shelf...
Still, most important argument for a helmet is its fit, and in this everyone's head is highly individual... I've no hesitations to keep a selected helmet on for +20 minutes to see if there any pressure areas or alike... I also put on my gloves to see if I can operate chinstrap, visor and vents without problems.
 
I can't comment on the Schuberth, but I do own a Neotec. The internal tinted lens is optically clear--something I couldn't say about the internal tinted visor on my old Caberg Justissimo II. The balance of the helmet is also better--the front end not being overly heavy as compared to the Caberg's balance. The Neotec is also very balanced during turns of the head--not lifting or catching wind and blowing backward. I wear my Neotec quite often while instructing on the racetrack.

And the chin vent on the Neotec flows a freakin' tornado of cooling/ventilating air into the nose area--much more than the chin vent on my RF-1100, or any Arai I've owned. The best chin vent I've ever experienced in 20+ years.

The Schuberth is by far the quietest helmet I have worn but if it doesn't fit your head it becomes a mute point I would say any CE/DOT approved helmet is good as long as you get it to fit properly and not cause any tight/hot spots. I am using a Scorpion EXO 900 and I am very happy with it and its half the price.
 
I have a Neotec.... very happy with it... and must say, nicest (and most expensive) helmet I've ever owned. It replaced a Scorpion EXO-900, which replaced a Nolan N102... I still have a Scorpion EXO-1000.
 
The Shoei Neotec costs more than any other helmet I've ever owned, by twice. After about 6 months use, I have to say it's the best helmet I've ever owned and worth every penny. I'd buy it again. I have the Borealis model. There is nothing I would change. And now that warm weather has arrived, I also am pleasantly surprised at how good the ventilation is.
 
+1 on the Neotec. I tried my buddy's Shuberth for several days. It didn't fit my head as good as the Neotec and after about an hour into a ride caused started hurting my head.

Yep, I forgot to mention that I'm actually on my second Neotec. The first one (Brilliant Yellow) smacked the pavement at Streets of Willow's Turn-8 when I crashed my CBR600RR last November. I hit hard enough to put visible damage on the helmet, and totally scratch the face shield.

It pained me to throw away such an expensive (and very new) helmet. But, I immediately replaced it with another Neotec--in White.
 
I have an EXO 900, happy with it, but I've been shopping Schuberth's for the last couple of years just to see......... been shopping Neotec's also in the last few months. Tried on both (actually the new C3 Pro) at a recent visit to Iron Pony in Ohio. Schuberth definitely feels heavier, and I thought the latching mechanism would take some getting used to. I thought the liner was too fine a material and might be warm in the hot weather. Good helmet of course, but I'm going with the Neotec when I can find a good deal........ maybe next year.
Note, in my local m/c shop yesterday, and they told me Neotecs are in short supply, earliest they could get me one was August. Might be a Canadian thing as they have to go through a distributor......
 
I agree with a previous poster that firstly it's about comfort and while asking opinions is valuable regarding function, fittings and fastening, the wearer is the final arbiter.....

Unlike other clothing that can sort of fit a range of folk for a given size, a helmet is far more personal... some folks just don't have a Shoei shaped head or whatever helmet shaped head.... what fits your medium head might not fit mine....

That said, I wear a Multitech and FOR ME it is the most comfortable helmet I ever wore......

I have had, Caberg, Schuberth, Bieffe, Nolan..... and others I can't remember.... but the Shoei has been the best, it doesn't have a built in sun visor, but I was willing to forego that having tried it on and felt that it was that good I could wear sunglasses.

Narrowing your choice down to two or three is a good idea, but be prepared to say no if it doesn't feel just right and remember, if you need a haircut, get it before you go for the helmet..... otherwise the helmet will feel very loose if you get it cut afterward....
 
The only thing I can add is - Neotec!!!
The Shoei's have a slightly rounded shape that fits my head perfectly, I have a Neotec and an RF1100.
I use the Neotec most of the time.
 
I just want to thank everyone for the advise. I order two of the Neotec's I have tried on both and both seem to fit well to be honest it came down to was room for the coms systems and the visors on the neotec seemed a bit better but it was still a close call with out being able to try each of them out for a few hours on the bike it would be hard to turn down either of the helmets.
