hey just noticed dunlop coming out with the "RoadSmart"

If I do my math right:

ST1300 Front & Rear

Dunlop Roadsmart: $246.90
Avon Storm: $250.90
Mich PR2: $314.90

Will be interesting to see if they are in fact both better and cheaper.

I havehad my ST for ten months from new. Three set of 220s 4000mi last set. I just put on a set of Road Smarts in hope of a few more miles. Have only 500mi on them so far. time will tell. The cost is about the same as 220s.

I have a set coming in on Tuesday, and I have another set in the garage.

We have a 12,000-15,000 mile trip this Summer, so will ride out on a set of these, carry the other set on the trailer to have installed when the first set wears out.

So I will have good experience by then.

I have the tires but since I just mounted a new set of Storms before they arrived I hesitate to pull the Storms. I have a second set of wheels but unfortunately I need a pair of disc's for the front wheel and the EBC rotors I want won't be available for another 30 to 45 days from what I'm being told.

I have a little over 1000 miles on my first set of BS 021s. The tires are sticky as hell, but the rear has already squared off. I will be amazed if I get 4k out of them.

My next set will be Conti's or PR2s

I'm in need of tires for the 06'. I am also a Dunlop fan and have been very disappointed with the OEM 220s. Not so much on the amount of mileage I was getting but I really don't like the tread pattern on the front. I was pleased to see them come out with another tread pattern. I like the duel compound as well.

Actually, if I could get away with using a Qualifier I would but there is the lack of sizes and the ST would eat'em alive.

I plan to give the RoadSmarts a try.

Had my new RoadSmarts installed yesterday, so the experience begins!:mcrider:

Keep in touch with us about your opinion of the Road Smart tires. Dunlop is a Goodyear brand and having worked for the company for 29 years I am very interested in your honest opinion of our new tire.

Will do, I have another new set in the garage so will run through two sets which should be a good evaluation.

We have a 12k to 15k trip planned this summer which will most likely require a change along the way.

Anyone at all out there that understands how to tell if a tire sticks real well or not have these on yet? Hint, if you didn't like BS020s traction limit, Dunlop 220s traction (both of which were at least predictable which is the good part of them), or BSO21 wear patterns, that's a good sign. I'm looking for a guy who doesn't think mileage in a straight line is everything in a tire who is running the Dunlops.

I purchased a bike with nearly new D220s (didn't like the rear profile at all, or their handling/stick), suffered them for only 500mi. before I threw them in the dump, for Pilot Powers (which stuck tight to the road and handled with excellence when pushed). My wife's Ninja 250 had Dunlop bias ply tires on it. They were worse than wooden tires. We threw them in the dump with 250 mi. on them for Metzlers (which worked better than excellent for that bike). She swore it was a different machine entirely, including over edge traps with the Metz. on the bike, and she was right.

My son just bought a left over Ninja 250 new. If it has the Dunlops, they will stay on long enough for me to ride the bike home from the dealership. Then they will come off and go to the dump so some Metz. can be put on.

I vowed to stay away from Dunflop, but the better lap times intrigue me (in case they are real). Dunlop can get it done in some racing, and some sport bike tires, maybe they have finally figured out the sport in sport touring???...... or not, so come on guys, anyone have them that pushes them some?

just to point out to you, ok you have your opinion but seeing as how pilot powers aren't made in 18" front rim sizes, be kinda difficult to find them for ST's...
Oh I didn't mean they were useful for the ST, just an example of my own general experience with the overall brand of Dunlop itself on my bikes, to be up front and illustrate where my perspective is coming from. The pilot power went on the little SV and would be too wimpy a casing for the ST1300 even if it was sized right. The Bandit is liking the Pirelli Diablo STradas very much (good tire), but that's another one that doesn't have an ST front size.

I was just pointing out my disappointment with the D220 on the SV along with the horrible Ninja tires. Ninja stock rubber is a tire that most 250 owners with experience agree need deep sixing before they are even worn out. That's a terrible indictment of a tire which a company should have long ago rectified with an update for their own reputation’s sake. The new Ninja250 takes 17 inch wheels now so the point is moot and now only affects owners of older models starting this year.

When the Pilot Powers are done, I was thinking of trying the STradas on the SV for good stick with better mileage than the PP. I also had an eye on the Pilot Road2. However the lap timed Dunlop tests have certainly caught my attention.

When I had my ST1300, I was happy running with the Metz Z-6 despite the low mileage in the tire (3500-5000 is my average for a sport tour tire regardless of bike) due to it's better handling over the Stock BS-020s that I wore out on the bike. I'm thinking any ST that sees some brisk twisty riding would be a superior test of the new Dunlop due to the bikes weight. Crappy handling in a tire should show up very easily on the ST. So, I'm hoping someone who isn't unfortunate enough to live in the straight and wide road STates, is giving them a go before I have to decide on new tires for the baby SV.

A lot of guys live where the roads are such that they need to think of mileage in a tire over subtleties in handling. Plenty others ride at a pace where mileage only is still the prime consideration for them. Nothing whatever wrong with that in any way. It's just that an assessment based on trip mileage first and foremost, doesn't help me in my riding area or daily riding. I’m in a riding situation where stick and handling come first for me over mileage (while mileage is still a consideration after that).

I am looking for another ST rider with similar evaluation needs who had the new Dunlop tire. It will probably take some time to find one since the tire is so new. The PP has a ways to go, I just hoped to find out and ride on someone's coat tails before I had to pony up some bucks and riding time for tires I could very easily be badly disappointed in.

That a VFR rider likes them is a good initial sign. :) Now if only an ST rider who tortures them with the ST bulk on occasion would show up.

Same here Carl..........I'm waiting..:popcorn

I've had good luck at the track with Dunlops, but hear all bad reviews for previous ST applications.

I will have to buy in the next 30 days, so if there is no feed back on these new Dunlops I guess I'll try Avons.

Nice to see you back Carl, winter hibernation (sp?) ending early?;)

Yeah Brian, I did some riding yesterday in the ice and snow and more to the point the sand and gravel. Some of the way back roads have more sand and gravel on them than blacktop right now. I heard a couple reports of some Harley riders going out around here and ending up mutilating their Iron Horse Babies. One guy had just got his and dug the crap out of the sides and tank biting it on a sand patch.

As easy going as I took it yesterday, I could have used old steel wheelbarrow wheels for tires and stayed upright. There were surprises in every other turn in places. It was embarrassing when the little kid on the tricycle blew his little rubber horn and passed me. :D

It was still a blast to get on two wheels again! Crappy part is I forgot to take the annual "bike in snow photo" for SHEROB this year. My 6 foot high 40 by 30 foot snow heaps I plowed up have all melted down from the rain we did have, to a pitifully small size. Your probably a week or so behind weather wise up your way.

The mountain was still full of calcium and the pavement was kind of like the moon surface in places, but I got some more normal paced riding up that way.

You need tires in 30 days????? YAYYYY! I think I can stretch it out a little longer than that, you can be the goat this time around (as in the goat the hunters stake out to attract the Lions so they can nab them).

I hate it when I'm the goat :p: With my luck I get eaten at least half the time before the hunters get the Lion. I'll try and wait to see how you like them, if nobody else shows up at the tether first that is.

Sigh, I bet I end up being the goat on this one after all. Oh well, I was the goat on the Pirrelli STradas and they turned out cool.
