Highway Blades - Full Kits! 1100/1300/1300P

Hi Dylan, I am genuinely interested in this type of highway blade for my ST1300 (2009), but I am a bit concerned that cutting the plastic cover might not be an easy task. Could you provide any kind of guidance or instructions on how to do it properly? Do you have any experiences? This is an important question for me, and I would like to be sure before placing an order. At 55, my knee is really asking for this footrest. :-) Thanks: Levente

The highway blades mount up nicely and are a welcome addition on the longer rides. The covers are on my "to do" list, but there is now an article with a printable template for it:

Hope that helps!

Sounds like with a template, patient use of a Dremel tool or similar, would suffice.
Anything you do to those plastic covers will be, by definition, a "Custom" job.
I likewise am usually filled with fear, trepidation and loathing at the thought of cutting into the factory plastics.
Nonetheless, I drilled a hole (using a step bit) near my fairing pocket to install a USB charger. It came out perfect, but boy I was nervous.
Measure twice (or 3 or 4 times, as necessary) and cut ONCE. The template should help; start small and you can expand it as necessary.
Much like getting a haircut... you can always cut hair shorter, but... you can never cut it longer.

Dylan hasn't logged into this site since October of last year. When I bought my blades from him last year I was able to contact him through his website listed on the 1st post of this thread. There is a template posted for cutting the cover, I used it and it was successful process.

Do you still have a copy of this template? I've gone to his site and was unable to find one. I also bought mine in October, but reached out in January to enquire and have had no response.

The MCL footpegs are smaller, so i don't think the previously mentioned template will work.

I'd think cutting a tip over cover is different than drilling the fairing pocket. Mostly because the TO covers cost around $21 so if you blow it, it is not an expensive fix. I shudder to think how many of those covers I went through in my many drops. (Back then, they were less expensive and I found some for sale in our For Sale forum.)

Totally agree, but given my history of wrecking things, I'm always trepidatious.
I have a spare set of new tipover covers too, but haven't needed them.

Update Alert!

Still working thru some website improvements but it is time to let it fly! If you navigate to the top of the page over the products drop down, you will see a section for the ST :)

I have several 1100 and 1300 standards ready to ship and the 1300Ps should be ready by Wednesday!

Hello Everyone!

Quick introduction - My name is Dylan Spink, I am a motorcycle and machine tool addict. I have long been designing and making parts, mostly for my own addiction to long distance motorcycling. I rode an ST in a Butt Lite Rally, and rode the 17 and 19 IBRs on old Hondas. Professionally I am a Mechanical and Manufacturing Automation Engineer in the med device industry.

Currently I run my Engineering / CNC shop nights and weekends. I plan to offer a small catalog of awesome parts, and the first thing hot off the mill are these replacement MCL wings!

I reverse engineered a GEN 1 version, and suspect these will also fit GEN 2 mounts. I have a set off to a friend to confirm fitment and will update this post once I know for sure.

Any questions please don't hesitate to reach out - email is quickest but certainly will be checking back here as well. I welcome any feedback or ideas / suggestions for other parts as well!

Best,
Dylan Spink
You are a freaking genius!!
