Most bikes these days are targeted for the 180-230 range so that's normal.. the ST, Stelvio, GS Adv are just not the norm as the added range doesn't mean much to most of the riders out there..
Couldn't agree more. Tha GW currently states 35 mpg and get about 40 on the road. This one states 42mpg, so I would conservatively say 45mpg or better. Comfortably 200 mile range. The 4 valves and redesign accomplished this. This bike also claims 125hp @ 5500rpm and 125 fpt @ 4500rpm. The Tour may not be, but the base GW will give the ST a run for its money. My .02

I will test ride both, it is an ST on steroids and with the electronic assists it could be a better handler.

And to add to that my CTX gets average 48 to 52 mpg on the highway and with only a 5.1 gal tank I often go 220-230 miles between fill ups when I travel. And the gauge still shows another 25-35 miles range left usually. Honda rates it at 35 mpg per info I had to dig to find on the world Honda web site (since they didn't say in the Powersports Honda web site).
I know some of you riders here get the same on the ST.

I average 47-50 on my ST.

I average 54-57 on my CB 1100 which Honda says should get 42 mpg.

OK, as I posted elsewhere, I will take both bikes for a ride in the spring. I like it that it is a big bike that still gets decent mileage. Again on Honda Powersports at 42mpg est. and the ST1300 at 35mpg est. I am sure this bike will get near the ST's mileage. Like most here, highway riding on the ST is from 47 in wind to 53-54mpg at 65-70mph. The GW has 125hp @ 5500rpm and 125fpt @ 4500rpm, the torque is huge with that kind of HP!!! So at 5.5 gallons and the fuel warning coming on with 1 gallon left that leaves 202 miles at 45mpg, very doable I'll assume. Self cancelling turn signals, cruise, heated seat and grips, 10 yr nav system incl, ABS, wishbone fork, Electronic suspension with 4 modes and too many others to list here. As I recall there is a thread in our forums from way back of all the things people would have liked to see on the ST, well this bike has them and more. Maybe Honda was listening.

Now that I’ve seen more pics of the GW, I would really like to have one. It seems a little downsized (not just in weight but in width as well)- the non tour GW looks like an ST series bike. I would love one in the Pearl Brown color, and as the standard 6 speed manual bike (DCT might be great, but I’d rather shift it myself). I do have one issue with it as I do with most recent cars. Riding takes a lot of attention and concentration on other traffic and road conditions. As really amazing as that 7” display is with BT audio and phone connectivity, Apple Car Play, and navigation, I feel it could become a significant distraction when riding, and even though it doesn’t have the ‘overbuttonitis’ of the previous GW, I do get concerned about distraction when riding. I ride with music on delivered via Plugfones BT audio and I have an audio controller on my handlebar with my iphone hidden in the right locked pocket, but I would wonder how important it is to make calls, look at audio track information and enter GPS info when riding (none of it is) and as in cars, it can make for a less safe ride (again, secondary to distraction). Other than what I wrote above, I love it. I’d love to buy one but if I do, I likely would wait a few years so any bugs that need correction occur in the first few years of production.

Too bad U have to drop $27K to get the features most forum members & owners wanted in a new bike.
They could have worked alot of these upgrades into a new ST Platform.

This is a Gold Wing. If you weren't going to pony up that kind of cash for the old version, you won't be for the new one, either The MSRPs between them aren't that far apart.

They could have worked alot of these upgrades into a new ST Platform.
They could have worked them into the Big Ruckus, too, but like a new ST, there's no market for it.

Spoil Sport! :well1:

But true! Just watch the Craig's Lists and such, STs 1100 & 1300s are not selling well! But that's why I still have the ones I do, Why give them away for nothing, when I can keep riding them? :bk13::bl13::bk13::bl13: and I'm now saving up parts to make a :dr13: :D

Hope to plan a test ride out of Marietta Ohio in the spring so I can test the new 'Wing on the roads of West Virginia and Southern Ohio. My '07 is still fun and of course my '10 ST1300 is a blast.......the price though is a lot of lettuce on a retirement budget.........

So let me get this straight...

ST1300 luggage capacity = 35L + 35L + 45L (top box) = 115L. Plus a little in the fairing compartments, and room for a tank bag.

GL1800 "Tour" capacity = 30L + 30L + 50 L (top box) = 110L. And a tiny tank compartment.

The Wing's saddlebags also have an odd shape to them which looks like it renders the part to the rear dead space if you're using the softbags inside. Maybe that's where to stash tool kit, tire pump, first aid kit, or ???

On long tours I already have a Motofizz bag on the ST's back seat. Guess with the GL I'd have to do laundry every few days to downsize a little. ;-)

And I wonder if aftermarket will tool up a more useful top box for the GL Bagger? One that doesn't get into the passengers elbows so they can't reach the grab bars? The Honda one costs a fortune anyway, between the box ($899.95) and the needed installation kit ($854.95) = $1754.90 MSRP. I can't imagine anyone going that route.

I wonder if the smaller cargo capacity might have to do with more hardcore tourers pulling trailers instead of piling it all on the bike.

exactly my thoughts on this---which is why I wont get the touring model but attach a pretty little tow trailer behind with a nice little generator to heat my electric blanket or run a small A/C

Yeah, I've wondered about that. It's realistically the only option for 2-up touring, where even before luggage I'm over GVWR.

Unfortunately here in California that's a less attractive option as we have a 55 mph speed limit for vehicles towing trailers. I can't imagine droning on an Interstate at 55, on a bike. :noway

All this positive commentary begs the question, "who'll be the first ST-O forum member to buy a new '18 Goldwing?" Ideally, it ought to be Mellow! Shall we each give him ten dollars, and send him on his way?
Just put down 10k on the White Tour DCT Wing.

Anyone need an 2006 ST with only 120,000 Miles

There is a very high likelihood I will be on this in the spring. I'm unsure yet, but will probably hold on to the ST cuz she is just so much fun to ride. But time will tell.

OPINION ... manual or DCT?

I'm 99% sure it won't be the Tour. I just love the sporty look of the standard 'Wing.

The ferret got online and tawked about mpg-

Look here y'all, I ain't EVER bought a bike where mpg was a factor in the decision LOL. If I like it, don't care if it gets 10 mpg LOL

I'd do the DCT. You can still shift if you want to or don't if you don't.
