Honda OEM Part 08P61-MCS-800 Fuel Tank Pad

I want to put the Honda OEM Tank Pad Part# 08P61-MCS-800 on my 2003 ST1300. The parts listing only says it will fit 2005 and above but I'm hoping that that because that might be when they started offering the tank pad. Are fuel tanks the same from 2002 on up? Is there any reason this top tank pad won't fit. At $60+ per I want to be sure and I'd rather not put one of the cheesy universal pads on it.. Thanks.
 
It is my understanding that that protector will fit, for USA models, 2003 - 2012. If you're talking about a 2002 ST1300 you're talking about a Pan European; a European ST1300. I can't guarantee it will fit, but if it were my bike, I would buy it. The only installation issue I could possibly think of is the fuel tank has been previously damaged is such a way that it changed the contour of the tank; highly unlikely.

Thanks for the info. It is 2003 that has never been damaged. I checked some parts lists for different years and it looks like they used the same tank numbers right up through 2007 and the the part numbers for the tank change in 2008 though the overall shape of the tank looks unchanged. I'm probably going to do it.

I think that corresponds to the year they changed the size of the hose that connects the upper tank to the lower. They'd have had to change the sizes of the outlet and inlet ports on upper and lower tanks, accordingly, and that would result in new part numbers.

But don't take my word for it- ask someone who actually knows.

Thanks. Makes sense to me. Sounds like you do actually know. I worked almost 39 years in A&D manufacturing and good configuration control requires that any change that affects form, fit or function gets a unique part number, though it can be a change to the suffix or prefix. I'd expect nothing less from Honda. I think you are spot on with the reason it changed. Thanks again. KC
 
The rear tankpad will fit any year ST1300. The big question is, where did you find it? They are no long making them, last I heard!
 
The [FONT=&quot]08P61-MCS-800 mentioned is is the pad for the Police model. $55 ea from partzilla, Just bought three of them a couple of months ago[/FONT][FONT=&quot][/FONT]
 
I just ordered one from Honda of South Georgia off Ebay for $60.30 shipped. I believe they have 5 left. Revzilla' site said they had only one left in stock and whenever I've tried to order anything with only 1 left in stock it almost always turns out that their inventory is wrong and my order gets cancelled and loose a couple weeks in the process so I went the safe route. I'll post pics after it gets here around 6/14. Thanks all. KC
