I removed the two bolts holding the smc/caliper onto the forks but after that I cant get the caliper off of the smc bracket, even when i removed the brake pads.

Thanks in advance

I've been researching a ton on the smc but can figure this simple thing out.

There are only two lines that connect the SMC to the caliper.
If your replacing he SMC, look at the only two capped (empty holes) on the new SMC before you take things apart.
If your not familiar with the brake system, perhaps you should seek help with someone who is before you get in over your head.

I removed the old smc and a new one is on the way...do i have to drain the brake fluid before putting on the new smc or can i just bleed it afterword? Thanks so much.

I would flush the system until I had clean brake fluid everywhere before I put a new SMC on. I see no logic in contaminating a new SMC with old possibly dirty brake fluid.

Probably would have been better to leave the old SMC in place until you replace them, because you’re now going to drain all the fluid in the lines, and make a mess to work near.
And, you will have to remember how the lines were routed if you didn’t take pictures first.
Your kinda doing it the hard way.
