Helmets How is your Helmet in the rain?

My scorpion exo-400 is crap...

Water gets in the vents and down onto the inside of the face shield, guess I should be closing the vents.

Also I have the joe rocket gloves with the wiper on the thumb. When I use the wiper, the face shield bends and water gets past the seal and on the inside.

I hate it, any sugesstion as to a better helmet?
 
EXO-700... leaks
Caberg Justissimo... leaks less

I have yet to find a good venting helmet that doesn't leak... if it doesn't leak, it will fog up because it doesn't vent :rolleyes:
 
Just rode in the rain yesterday, 400 mi about 200 of in rain, Arai Quantum II no probs at all, dry even with vents open.

Never had a helmet that didn't get somewhat wet in a steady rain. A wet liner can really suck if you can't remove it for drying. My old Shoeis were like that. The Nolans I have now have a snap out liner which you can dry quite successfully with a hand dryer or hair dryer. The Nolans have a fog-free insert that doesn't fog up in the rain, but if it rains hard enough water can work its way between the regular visor and the fog-free insert. That leaves spots and requires R&R to clean. PIA. It's easier to leave the visor cracked to prevent fog, and I don't find it's any wetter that way.
 
I'm with Steve. I have a Shoei RF-1000 and I've ridden up to 150 miles in the rain this year (several times). I don't have any leaks, but I will keep the visor cracked for venting. If it rains really hard then rain will come down the cracked visor
 
I think if you use a Pinlock insert, you don't need to crack open your Shoei visor.
Voila, no more leaks during rain.

In the few times I've been in rain, my RF1000 was pretty good. Nothing really got into the vents.

Get you a Pinlock visor for your RF-1000. It'll never fog again. Best thing since sliced bread.

And no, mine dont leak either. only thing that gets wet is the wind curtain under the chinbar.
 
I have an Arai RX-7 RR4 and have never had a problem with rain coming in. Have had some fogging issues but open the chin vent a little usually takes care of it.
 
Believe it or not, I usually pick a helmet based on fit and price.

I usually end up with a JHC because they seem to fit best. And the price is usually good.

I've never had one cause me a problem in the rain. I had an $80.00CAD HJC cheapo once. Fit great, DOT approved, and once I installed the (free) little nose baffle-thingy, it didn't fog up a bit.

I still think the most important things in a helmet are fit and comfort. Just my 2 cents.

Shoei X11 - Bone dry unless I have the vents open.




Which makes me wonder....where did the expression Bone Dry come from anyhow? Must be from the SouthWest, eh?
 
Shoei-RF1000. Went out in a downpour yesterday so I can say it is absolutelly fine in the rain. I use a fogcity insert to prevent fogging, but it also has a lever on the visor that lets you crack it open just a bit that pretty much elliminates fogging even after you put the helmet on after you've let it rain on your head for a while. I guess I generate a lot of steam when I'm wet.
