In March of 2017 I paid $3500 for my 2004 with 48000 miles.. very very good condition. other than it needed tires. I have the ST and a KLR650. Love them both
I hope you've replaced the tires by now! 4:2010 ST1300 bought 8/4/17 for $8000.00 with 2700 miles, extended Honda warranty, original battery and original tires.
And look how many others have followed you in that deep dark place! (Me included... I still have two more to do!... except for the clutch slave cylinder extravaganza. ...

I can't say for sure what's in the mind of those pea brain people high up in their ivory tower, all I know is that if anyone who can afford to own a "vintage" motorcycle with bigger engine cc more than 25/30yrs old, you'll have to cough out alot more cash in order to use and operate it on the roads, there's no such thing as owning a vehicle forever once you bought and paid for it. The "road tax" that we have to pay every year for an older bike comes with a mathematical formula that is probably derived from some individual who has never rode a motorcycle before, high flyer scholars and brain damaged people. I guess that's where the huge government reserves from this tiny nation comes from...Or, is it purely a money-grab on the part of the government?
Engine Capacity (EC) in cc | 6-Monthly Road Tax Formula (From 1 August 2016) |
---|---|
EC < 200 | S$40 x 0.782 |
200 < EC < 1,000 | [S$40 + S$0.15(EC - 200)] x 0.782 |
EC > 1,000 | [S$160 + S$0.3(EC - 1,000)] x 0.782 |
Age of Vehicle | Annual Road Tax Surcharge |
---|---|
More than 10 years old | 10% of Road tax |
More than 11 years old | 20% of Road tax |
More than 12 years old | 30% of Road Tax |
More than 13 years old | 40% of Road Tax |
More than 14 years old | 50% of Road Tax |
The differences being, Cash for Clunkers was (a) entirely voluntary, and (b) as you noted, a government subsidy for financially-troubled U.S. automakers (and, thereby, it was a job-SAVING program), set up as a (c) short-term, one-time initiative. It is likely a money grab by the government. It reminds me of ‘cash for clunker's here in the US several years ago
China is real good with letting us "buy" cheap, but have you ever tried to send something back? For the most part, it will cost you a lot to try to send stuff back. My wife bought a dress for one of my son's weddings and it was so poorly made, she returned it. I think it cost her about 1/3 of the cost of the dress to return it due to the way their postal service is run (taxes/etc..)....
China and Singapore have made their predatorial programs permanent, and compulsory for all vehicle owners.
I've known a few people that have bought salvage title motorcycles too. . . They were handy and they made out pretty well on their initial investments.I purchased my 2002 St1300 (no ABS) humble steed from eBay for £1100. It had been down the road on the right side , and was a registered insurance group 'C' . spent another £800 to £ 1200 sorting her out ... Now i have added a ABS for approx. £600 , an electrical screen an harness for £430 , and a front and rear dash cameras kit for £60.
next will be the wind deflectors , if i can still get them !!!
