My RF1000 shield stays statically charged at almost all times. Immediately after cleaning it with soapy water, I watch as lint, dust, and fibers attach to it out of the air. And when riding, it pulls the fine dust out of the air and eventually gets dirty enough that if/when I touch it, there's a 'clean' spot that shows how much dust it has accumulated.

It seems to stay charged over time, my cleaning it with soapy water doesn't remove the charge, and the charge strengthens just from wind blowing over it.

Anyone having the same issue? What do you do to reduce or eliminate it?

I use plexus and haven't had a dust/static issue (even in the desert).
Do you have an old shield that you might try "endust" on?

Products like ZOOK work pretty good. WJ may jump in here, he's our resident Mad Chemist. (Mr Bertrand) I think a mild detergent rather than soap helps. I have the same problem also with the meter cover on my 4x4, using a shot of Plexis helps!

I have tried Plexus and don't recall a benefit. But it has been a while since then, so I'll try it again. :)

FWIW, the issue is on the original Shoei clear visor that came with the helmet. It seems that the issue is material-based (meaning the base material, substrate, and/or coating of the shield is prone to it).

I use Plexus on the bike's windshield, headlight lens, and gage cover lens on cleanup following every ride. The headlight lens and windshield don't attract dust out of the air, but the gage cover lens does just as my helmet visor does.

My old smoked visor for an HJC helmet didn't draw dust, as the 'smoke' in the lens is actually fine carbon or perhaps metallic particles (conductive).

Has anyone gotten noticeably different results with a replacement visor (or different surface treatment)?

After you wash and dry it, wipe it gently with a soft, just barely damp cloth. It's easy to build up a charge of static electricity when you're drying plastic, the damp cloth will reduce the charge. Another thing, don't over-dry it, the more you rub plastic with a dry cloth, the greater the charge. Sometimes when I've finished cleaning my windscreen, I can feel the static electricity raise the hairs on my arm. A quick wipe with a damp cloth and the static is gone.

I got free bottles of Zook when I lived in Houston, great stuff! I use Plexus now since I don't get the free Zook anymore. :(
