Hi all. I’ve just done a carb overhaul but try as I might, I can’t get them to relocate. The manual simply stated lightly coat the rubbers in oil and punch them on till they seat. Never had a V configuration before so I’m finding it almost impossible. Any hints or tips would be appreciated.

It can be very difficult if you didn't replace the carb insulator boots as they can be very stiff.
Not only that but they might not seal properly as well if they are old an stiff.
Even with new ones I use silicon grease, seat the right side all the way in and then wiggle and push the left side down.

I did get new ones, but as it’s a cold day, heating them up worked. Surprised at Honda for making the job such a fiddle. Doing up the clamps is a work of art ! Thanks for your reply.

Make sure that the screws are not interfering with the throttle linkage on the right side. Between the carbs.

That’s a good tip, thanks. I did notice they’re not snapping shut like they should. I’ll check that out.

Those clamp screws only go one way if you look close.
And that way is the only way you will be able to reach them to tighten and loosen them.
And notice on the clamps that one has a little perpendicular lock wire on it and one does not.
IIRC, the lock wire one goes on top - closest to the carbs.

IIRC all except #1, there the upper clamp needs to be flipped so that the wire tab does not slip into the cast support slot in the rubber, but outside on the closed end...
Otherwise you won't be able to access the bolt-head with the long JIS screwdriver from the right forward side...
