ht air 2.0 overpants

I have the HT Air 1.0. I think the only real difference is that mine don't have a zipper to attach to a jacket. Since I don't have a First Gear jacket that doesn't matter to me.

In general, I'm pretty happy with them. Definitely cooler than any of the non-mesh pants I've tried. Velcro adjustable waistband, so the fit is easily adjustable depending on what you're wearing under them. Combination hook and snap waist closure, so they should stay on in an accident. Leg zippers are dual action, so you can open them from the top to get into a pocket in your pants. Full length zippers so easy to get on and off over boots. Three pockets, one in back, two in front. I don't use the back one, because I don't want to sit on something when I'm riding.

Negatives? The pocket openings are a little small. They'll hold something like a wallet and cell phone fine, but getting those items out of a pocket is a bit tougher than it should be. Not sure about the 2.0, but the 1.0 didn't have CE armour in the knees. But First Gear sells the armour separately, so I fixed that. The hip padding is awfully thin. I bought a second set and doubled up in each armour pocket. Black? Why are pants designed for hot weather black?

I'm happy with them, overall.
 
YEA!!! why don't we start our own line of M/C summer gear that is LIGHT colored so as to keep you cooler insted of the black!

I am very happy with mine (I have the matching Kilo jacket also) because of the flexibity. However, the windproof/waterproof zip in liners ain't exactly waterproof. In a frog drowning they leak at the zippers, so I always carry a rain suit. I also bought the 'extra' armor and doubled it up (the pockets have the room).
 
I didn't think to mention this before, but I doubled up on the knee armour, too. I put the CE approved hard armour on top of the foam armor that came in the pants. That way I have the soft foam next to my knees, and the more rigid CE armour on the outside.

And +1 on the rainsuit. I don't use the liner at all. If it rains, I use the rainsuit. In the winter, I use a different pair of pants.
 
I like mine but have no rain experience with them. I added CE to the knees and some odd looking thin pads to the hips. I think they will hold up OK over jeans. The full length zippers make them easy on and off over boots.
 
I have a pair of the Olymia, and ended up giving them to my son. The light color is a plus, but in every other respect I found them inferior to the First Gear. Why?

The waistband is elastic, with little adjustability. The front has ony a snap, not a hook, so isn't as secure, pretty much forcing me to use a belt, which is one more thing to buy, hook and risk scratching the tank. The rear pockets have big snaps: I don't want anything that I might sit on back there. The zippers are one-way only: to get something out of the pockets of my pants, I have to unzip all the way from the bottom. Instead of coming in short, regular and long, the Olympia are designed to be hemmed, but that means you need to pay someone to hem them, at extra expense. And it means the velcro closures at the bottom are very long, and seem to always be getting caught on things (mostly on the other leg) when I took them off or put them on.

All in all, I was very disapointed.
 
Bought a pair last week on closeout at NewEnough.com for $109. Need something to throw on over the dress pants for my commute to work.

Test rode them this weekend without the liner over khaki shorts in 60-85F temps for a total of 450 miles and they were great.

Rode them into work without the liner over dress pants this morning and I think they are exactly what I was looking for.

I will say that they fit true to size - I wear 31" waist dress pants and bought the 32" size in the HT 2.0. The elastic waistband provides me enough room to wear over shorts/pants, but I will say that I don't need any of the the velcro adjusment on the waist to snug things up. It isn't uncomfortable or anything, but I might have been able to go with the 34" waist and snugged up with the velcro adjusment.

My only other basis for comparison is the pair of Joe Rocket Ballistic overpants I have worn in cold temps. The HT Air 2.0 are nice in that they are more "fitted" - didn't mind wearing them around when we reached our destinations over the weekend. I like how the front pockets are sized/placed and the zippers are quality.

Speaking of zippers, the zippers up the side of the legs rock. They zip way high to make getting in/out easy and also zip from the top down, which came in handy as I wanted to "cool off" a bit at our rest stops.

Have not worn them with the liner yet - but comments regarding their lack of complete waterproofness are duly noted. :)
 
I just bought a pair of HT overpants. Locally my dealer is changing distributors for Fieldsheer and I was able to get 45% off. I plan to ride year round without the inner liner. I post again after I try them out. They should be in tomorrow.
 
Ok. I got the new 2009 Fieldsheet HT pants. Living in California, I can't imagine I'll ever need the thick liner that comes with these. In fact, since it is summer, the pants without the liner are a little warm. I wish these had full lenth side zippers. My giant size 13 Alpinestar Tech 2 boots won't go through them, so I have to put on the pants, then the boots. The two front pockets are useless, they put things that don't bend (wallet, iPhone), right where things need to bend. So I have had to find other, less convenient places to store these items. I adjusted the knee pads to their highest point and they seem to fit about right. The pants are also made to ride high on the waist and seem to give me the nerd feeling with them up so high. Protection wise they feel pretty heavy duty for textile.
 
The knee pads were too low on mine even though the waist and length of the pants was a good fit. No way to move the pads without re-sewing either.

Also the cordura nylon in the non-mesh areas is very thin. I don't know what denier it is because none of the web sites say. Feels like paper thin.

I was disappointed because I usually like Firstgear stuff. I sent them back without even using them to Motorcycle Closeouts, a fine seller by the way.
 
I don't mind my HT 2.0's much, but the guys that design liners need to put them on the outside. So I don't use them, and put rain pants on over top if it gets wet or too cool. You can ride them in the cool, not cold, because the mesh is a bit too fine and they could use more airflow. Not bad though, and I don't wear any pants underneath any more. The knee padding was fine for me, although I don't believe it is CE. I bought the CE hip pads. The adjustable belt is great, way better than Joe Rockets, and they will stay up. However, I'm liking suspenders these days. I did abuse mine in a little very low speed lowsider and the outer material is thin and wears through easily in that situation where my boot pushed from inside and forced it against the pavement.
 
Love the pants. Tried the mesh tex pants and didn't find them too comfortable. HT air 2 are comfortable enough to walk around in. The side and knee armor isn't bulky and positions itself well seated but don't feel like they would offer significant protection during a fall. Double ended full length side zippers are amazing for easy on/off and the perfect tool to let me wear shorts during my one mile commute.
 
Just an update that I've continued to wear these with the rain liner as the temps have dropped to the point where I'm riding in low-mid 40F on my commute into work in the morning. Commute is only 12 miles so that has something to do with it, but I haven't needed to start using my much warmer Joe Rocket Ballistics yet...
 
I've had mine since May and have been very pleased with them. I've worn them near 100 degrees and down to 40 degrees with only a light fleece pant underneath and they are very warm & comfortable. They've kept me dry in the rain, but I haven't ridden in a continuous prolonged downpour yet with them. I also added the extra armor in the hips. I got a pair for my wife and she likes them too. I would definitely buy them again! I have a pair of men's 32 for sale here: make an offer :)
