I want to get talking - J&M or AutoCom?

I can hear my Ipod fine through my Autocom with earplugs in. You can also get the helmet cable from Autocom ($50) to plug in your in ear earbuds. Then you can turn the volume way down. I use the in ear speakers most of the time.

I am running the J&M 2003 dual station so we have great intercom .. For music, have
XM going into the J&M Audio port .. No problem with either .. CB, WX, Music, Intercom,
all in one handlebar mounted box ... Put a small speaker on the Garmin 2610 so that takes
care of navigation and can hear the speaker just fine with either the Nolan or HJC helmet.
Bluetooth, NAW, Leave it in the trunk .. If it is important, they will leave a message ..

I put my phone under the seat on "auto answer" connected to my Autocom. But I'm thinking of a bluetooth module. Because if I crash and can't crawl back to my bike, I'll have my phone in my pocket.

MATT - What some folks have done is sourced the left side "passing" headlight switch (which is a momentary switch) from the UK (FreeStyle and Reg S for sure) for the ST1100 and used it as the PTT which solves the problem. As you said, for the price of the switch, it sure seems to be less than desired. My riding friends in the UK (where you have a bit more rain on a regular basis) indicate it is a common problem over there but Autocom is good about replacing them.

What don't you like about the Autocom PTT switch? I found it to be so much better than those rubber encapsulated units that are physically impossible to mount in a useable location.
