Hi anyone have the Issue with Ignition switch started getting it before bike parked up past 24 mnts , but worse now , on Getting everything back together had to keep key turned back slightly left to start bike had to keep held in left posture say 11pm position to get lights up & start , What's the easiest quickest fix first please! Bike did Fire up just added bit of Redex 2.5 ml per litre fuel so added 12.mm total didn't even try didn't drain carbs before parked maybe got lucky as wasn't planning on it being in shed unfinished that long!

Try spraying some electrical contact cleaner into the switch and see if that helps.

Probably just dirty contacts would be my guess if it sat for a while.ok thanks no harm might only work temporarily was hoping on more insight on the Actual issue & Long Term Solution fix. but appreciate your input Phil
The cleaner may or may not fix it but it's an easy first step to see.
if it doesn't then there is probably a 'new' switch in your future ...
Keep in mind that the key slot and the electrical contacts are very different parts of the switch body.
As Larry stated, the key and the electrical switch are two separate parts; it is possible to separate these two parts (unbolting the entire mechanism from below the triple clamp) and then open up the switch section, where you will find (IIRC) a spring and detente ball and a wiper that makes contact with the electrical contacts. A proper clean out to remove old grease or corrosion and some switch lube maybe all you need. It's a bit fiddly but no special tools are required.

@Al st1100's suggestion is the easiest. Depending on how long it takes to get the switch shipped to you it might not be the fastest. You can pull the old switch, clean it and replace it in a few hours, BUT...springs weaken with use and age, other parts wear. If you want to eliminate a potential problem down the road, get a new switch. If you want to save a few bucks, strip, clean, and reinstall the old one (this assumes your time is free).
