I need recommendations on a rider-passenger intercom set under $250. I want one you can use with in ear speakers (I ride with ear plugs, so not sure about in helmet speakers)

This is what my girlfriend and I use, quality is good enough to communicate. I wouldn't bother trying to listen to music. But they have always connected every time, and we just leave them on all day without the batteries going dead. in fact longer than all day....

+1 for this one. I have this one and use it with ear plugs. I do listen to music. It's pretty good for the price, lots of volume if you're worried about the earplugs. Battery lasts for days when using constantly. Keeps its charge and rarely needs charging when using it for less frequent, shorter rides.

Down side is, it's a little big and bulky. That being said, it's not heavy and with the wind protection of the ST, I didn't notice an increase in noise around the helmet. It's on my Shoei GT Air.

Sorry, I didn't get a chance to reply. I use ear plugs, not buds. That is to say, I use the speakers that came with the Lexin, installed in my helmet, along with ear plugs that I use to help with the exhaust/engine noise. While using the ear plugs, I can still hear the music through the speakers while riding.

If you wanted to use ear buds with them, the connection point for the Lexin is USB-C. You can get USB-C ear buds, and I imagine they would work. While I have the Lexin, I don't have USB-C ear buds, so I can't test that theory. I wouldn't recommend taking the gamble either. I think I just confused things. All I was trying to assert was the Lexin works well, even with ear plugs.

Added a 3.5mm jack to my Cardo G4, very easy. we use Plugphone in ear speaker and noise plugs, the are fantastic, block wind noise and sound great voice and music, and the model we use was $17 from Amazon
