Interphone Intercom F4 Stereo: It works!

dreamfox

Hello to you all,
Just wanted to add some information about the Interphone's new model I just installed on my helmets.

About 6 months ago, I purchased the (now old model) Cellular Line Headset Kit for 2 Bikers Interphone Universal Twin Pack.
Installed properly, it seemed not to do the job for me. When in intercom mode, it was not possible to receive any calls, as it does only one job at the time. At speeds higher then 90km/h (or 50MPH), communication between Pillion was just impossible. After a while, one of the units had a blocked button, so my pillion could no longer add volume or decrease, or even shut-off the unit.

After heavy complaints at Interphone, I finally got the new version and that's what I wanted to share with you guys (or woman's).

The Interphone F4 STEREO:
A complete difference in sound quality. Much better! Now, with a windy storm and at speeds over 120km/h *(>75MPH) communication remain perfect, as well as receiving calls when in intercom mode! No need to glue the cell phone to your body in order to feel it vibrate (as this was needed with the previous model :D), and switch over from intercom to phone mode.
A small (not annoying) "wind noise" picks-up sometimes when we do not communicate, but immediately disappears when speaking.

With the F4 Stereo, during intercom or mp3 mode, when the phone rings, it just interrupts and let you choose to pick-up or not. After the call, previous mode is restarted automatically.

The new stereo HIFI headsets are great!
Also listening to MP3's is great as volume is added automatically depending on background noise. You can skip of fast forward/backward music by pushing 3 secs the volume up or down button.
Battery life seems improved as well. This WE drove about 6 hours fully connected with pillion al the time, and did not get any "empty warnings"

I was quit angry with the previous model as I'm now glad with the new one!

If any has questions, feel free to ask me...

Does it use VOX and how much did it cost?

If you mean VOX as in VOX dialling on mobile: YES depending on your mobile

If you mean hands-free call answering: when called by phone, some ring tone appears, when this happens, you could either do nothing ->10secs later previous modes restores e.g. intercom,mp3,
-or-
Yell something (say something), so that the units understands you want to pick up the call.

If you mean, VOX as in auto send communication, there's no need for this as the units are connected ALL the time, so when you speak, it was already connected!

Costed: about 270€ the dual set (for two bikes or driver /pillion )
Does this answers your question?

Do you wear ear plugs and is the volume good at speed with ear plugs in?

Great feedback. thanks.

I regularly wear earplugs, and this does not affect much the sound quality. The volume settings is not maximal for talked results (could be set harder still), the earphones of the STEREO set are still behind the inner liner of my helmet. Better results (not needed right now) could be achieved with earphone directly to ear, instead of inner-liner between. As this is not needed right now...
The "two" earphones might compensate sound failure for each other as well?(e.g. heavy wind noise right, left is ok)

Yes, that answers my question.

@Bigtom & @ Stevequest:
I always get at least 7 hrs riding time with my blueants unless its paired with a cell phone and have used it bike to bike up to 85 mph with very little wind noise (with the other unit on my buddy's fairingless Harley). On long rides I wear silicon earbuds with my MP3 to block out road noise and I can hear the blueant over that. I'd rather buy another set of Blueants than pay the $500 price tag for the new stereo Interphone.

I'm not sure the twin units would cost about 500$. (where do you get this price?)
I paid about 240€, but the exchange of the defective old one was included, so actually I paid only 23€ for the new one.(heavy discount due to the issues with previous model)
List price should be arround 300€ for the twin unit i guess!that would make it about 420$ with current exchange rates...for two sets.

I've wondered if any systems would work with earplugs. What kind of plugs do you use? I just custom molded ones that really block sound. Think I could still hear the music?

Thanks...

I just use earplugs when driving on highway's for extended time (don't like that anyway). These earplugs are the standard "cheap" kind, but do block the annoying wind noise at elevated speeds. When I use these "throw away" earplugs, the sound of the headset still comes trough easily. It seems to block especially other frequencies then the one you need to understand music or speech...
I do not have experience with custom molded ones...

Hi,

I have been watching this technology mature for some time so it's been nice to read some of the positive feedback on the F4's.

I am now keen to try a pair but can't locate a UK retailer and the one on-line store I can find won't take CC's, so if anyone can recommend a dealer I'd appreciate that.

Thanks

PS: Will be happy to post my findings once I get my hands on a set.

Update:
Last Sunday, me and my pillion drove for about 550km and had it activated in intercom mode for about 10 hours. It worked all the way without charging...and still did not get empty warnings...:06biker::06biker::06biker:

For those in the US - I just got this email from BlueAnt Wireless:

"We are just about to launch the new Interphone F4 headset in November of this year. The new features will include a greater range of 500 meters bike-to-bike, up to 10 hours talk-time, 700 hours standby-time and charge-on-the-fly utilizing a cigarette lighter connection.

You can see the new product features at http://www.myblueant.com/products/headsets/interphone/f4/index.php . I will add you to my list to advise when and where you will be able to purchase the new Interphone F4."

Me thinks Santa will be good to me this Christmas:D:D
