Is a Pan European Air filter reusable and cleanable?

HiFlo vs Emgo for ST1100.
OEM has a heavy mesh covering the inner surface of the filter.
The Hiflo that just arrived does not. Size looks to be ok.
Does the Emgo have that? It has been said that it is identical to OEM.
Below is OEM with the dense mesh that is missing on the Hiflo

Hi Tony, as usual there are as many votes for A as for B or B/n or even A+B+C and I’d bet each is as right as they can be.

However, it’s obvious that only the HiFlo proponents are thinking clearly...

Quite a while ago I standardized on HiFlo for all sorts of reasons, from easy access (thanks, Fortnine) to a great backstory.

I still have the two K&N’s that I offered up to the hive at no charge... no takers, so far.

I'm NOT surprised. I have a K n N in my Ducati ST4 s - I find it crap. Causes low down fueling which is a pain for any town riding.
I've been riding 45+ yrs now and have always used "paper element" air filters without any issue. A blow out with compressed air at service time and replace every second/third service depending on road conditions/dust and general condition. Air filtration is CRITICAL to engine longevity.

Any thoughts as to the purpose of the mesh? I don't imagine it is for filtration. More rigidity perhaps?

yes
