Itchy Boots

I can hear the sighs of relief across the board.
My only experience of young lads carrying machine guns, was when I was traveling through Germany and Italy in the late 70’s when the Baader-Meinhof crisis and Red Brigade were a big threat. found that stressful.
The adventure continues…..

I saw those folks as well at airports and large train stations, they were always in pairs and the one would carry the weapon while the other was in control of the ammunition. The idea was that it would be much less likely for two officers carry out crazed conduct with the weapon by dividing the responsibility. Knowing that maybe you could have relaxed a bit.

I saw them in the trains, yes they were in pairs but both were carrying machine guns….. in Italy they were walking the streets and checking our papers…. (It appears in some places this is the norm again. ;) ) but let’s not go there……

Visit any airport in Britain and you'll see the Police walking around with MP5 automatic weapons. Security is taken seriously!

I remember being in Munich after the hostage mess of Munich Olympics. Didn’t scare me. Just like after 911 going on a Disney cruise. Soldiers there. Just hoped they were locked and loaded. But the Taliban. That’s something different. Especially as a woman v

Here in New Zealand the police are generally just armed with firm language and a disapproving stare (OK they will have pepper spray and a Taser) so seeing heavily armed police was a bit of a novelty. I travelled to Europe as a 10-year old in 1974 and remember seeing the big stacks of assault rifles in Swiss railway cafes, belonging to Swiss citizens on their way to or from compulsory military service. When I took a holiday in Feb 2024, there were heavily armed police on the streets of Paris, whom one clearly wouldn't want to argue with. While walking through the embassy area of Paris three heavily armed policemen stopped a guy in a Smart car driving around with his windows down playing rap music; I think the disliked both his car and musical choices, and he very meekly complied with their succinct instructions. And Rome seemed to have some sort of paramilitary "flying squad' posted around the city in camouflaged SUVs. As a foreigner, I quite liked their presence, and they didn't bother me.

You want to see armed personnel, go to Israel. Solders boys and girls with m16 short, uzis and other guns are coming from and to their bases walking all over the place. Sitting in caffes with weapons on the floor... etc.
And ironically it is hard to get a personal weapon if for their citizens. Much harder than in the US.

I'm not a fen, but must admit that she's both lucky and genius in building this career of hers.

I must say I really enjoyed the compilation of all her past seasons, that highlighted her riding experiences on various roads. It hit home how much skill she has gained over the past 7 years of riding.
As I watched I reflected on my most recent adventure and the roads I encountered and the challenges I faced, are nothing compared to what she experienced.
Her drone footage was spectacular! Through her lenses I (we) got to see parts of the world that I (we) can only dream about.

I’m in the midst of planning my next adventure. Considerably much tamer than hers. I’m heading the furthest north in Ontario that I can go on logging roads. Exploring in my backyard on my own, but pleased to be a viewer of Itchy Boots’ journeys to foreign lands.
Wishing the best to my fellow riders who too are planning adventures.

To those who aren’t in sync with her channel, cool….move on and create some dreams of your own, enjoy.

If anyone is interested in video production as I am, it is gratifying to have followed her and watched the vast improvement over time.
And if anyone is interested in traveling and seeing new places by motorbike as I am, it is eye-opening.
Doing both these by herself is inspiring.
If anyone is not interested in any of these things, you are most welcome to scroll on by.

This is a long video. Spoiler alert, she has hired videographers to do parts of the video…they need to take lessons from her. That aside, you’re in for a treat as she celebrates 3 million subscribers.
Is it wrong of me to say my favorite part was the montage of crashes?

;) she had some doozies. Here I was concerned with a low speed off this past summer on the Trans Labrador….the terrain and conditions of the tracks she was on, I was amazed on how well she did. I had issues with cement like sloppy gravel, I wouldn’t have been able to keep my bike upright as much as she did…. ;)
So, no, i don’t think it was wrong.
