Jacket sleeve length vs full gauntlet gloves

reminded me of something I have wanted to ask other riders....

I find that jacket sleeves when tried on are always too long (for me).... check photo in the Spidi Jacket thread as example.
The sleeves go high into the riders hand.... myself I find this annoying with really any glove that I want to cinch direct around the wrist
and I have paid for shortening sleeves to on the wrist bone length.

So, my question is, am I missing something about the sleeve/glove fit or do you have a method that works out?
What are your ideas?

I have to pick out jackets in person. Never have I simply ordered one and had it fit. Something is always off, and close isn't always comfortable. Sizes are based on average measurements taken from a relatively small sampling of potential customers. NO ONE is average, though many are close.
 
My only stiff leather riding jacket does have sleeves that are slightly too long for me.

It's no big deal on the left hand but for the right hand it's annoying because some leather intrudes on the space in between my palm and the throttle, and especially so if I use my cramp buster (paddle).

As for a pair of gloves with gauntlets not fitting over the sleeve of my jacket I've never noticed that to be a problem even a loose fit on gauntlets is sufficient to keep the wind from blowing up my sleeve.

BUT NOT ON MY RAIN JACKET-- that lightweight material catches the wind and the raincoat sleeves will slide up my arm to the elbows (or further) if I don't cinch my gauntlet-equipped gloves tight.
 
My jacket sleeves tend to reach the base of my thumb. All my gloves are "gauntlet" type that go over the sleeve a few inches. My rationale (right or wrong) is that a slide down the road will pull your sleeve up and a gauntlet type glove will provide more protection. It also keeps wind from going up the sleeve. Being able to cinch the glove up around the wrist is important as well to keep the glove from coming off.
In the rain, I put the sleeve over the glove to keep the rain out.
 
My one and only pair of gauntlet gloves were useless. The gauntlet was too big/too much material to fit in the sleeve and to little/too little material to go over the sleeve.

I've yet to find a jacket with sleeves long enough and have it fit every else too. Luckily I live in Florida and cold weather protection isn't a real issue. I've learned to grit my teeth and deal with it the few times I ride in cold weather.
 
my full gauntlet gloves always seemed to fit over the sleeves without too much issue, maybe I've just been lucky.

If your rain jacket sleeves blow up you arm, what rain jacket are you using? A good jacket should have elastic or adjustable cuffs. When wearing a rain jacket the gauntlet gloves should be under the sleeves if put over the sleeves the rain will run down the sleeve into the glove. You might get away with the gauntlet outside in light or short periods of rain but in long sustained rain the gloves will be soaked.

Could the discrepancy that you are experiencing (gauntlet size) be due to different "gauntlets"
What I call a gauntlet style can be illustrated by the Held Steve glove. The gauntlet diameter is adjustable to be able to fit inside or outside the sleeve. All my "gauntlet" style gloves have this adjustability.

This is part of the issue, if the sleeve comes up to be touching the throttle, it gets in the way.
Further detail, if we use the Held glove as an example, I want the velcro loop to cinch just above my wrist bone, and then the jacket sleeve to sit just a bit back on the wrist bone, so the gauntlet then covers the sleeve.
Lots of gloves have a loop to cinch the end of the glove snug over the sleeve.......

I've only found this true with proper motorcycle jackets. With non-motorcycle jackets I found the sleeves a little short when riding. The wind would feel very cold on my bare wrists when wearing many non-gauntlet gloves. So the longer sleeve works well on the bike if looking a little awkward when off.

So cinching gauntlets over jacket covered wrists didn't bother me. Not riding in the rain gauntlets over jacket sleeves are how I roll.

I guess I am misunderstanding what you mean. With the Held, there is one Velcro strip to snug the glove down over the wrist (red) and then the gauntlet cuff has a large Velcro component (blue) that allows you to adjust the cuff to either go under the sleeve or over the sleeve. If my sleeve interferes with the red cinch (when I am putting the cuff over the sleeve),I just pull it up a bit so it is above the red cinch before I fasten it.

I get what you are saying. But if the sleeve is too long, if you have to pull it up lower than the velcro, then the sleeve is bunched up and uncomfortable.
(Any gear discomfort detracks from the ride focus)
 
I have a Thurlow leather jacket that fits perfectly. BUT, it was custom made to my measurements. I've never had an off the rack jacket (or pants for that matter) fit well. Gloves? My hands are big but my fingers are short so 'Stitches, Lee Parks, and Held gloves all have fingers that extend way beyond the digit inside. Gauntlet gloves don't work for me. The one time I wore a pair they were outside my one piece Stitch, I got caught in a downpour. Yup, those gloves were waterproof. Took them off and the water dripped out.

Maybe get in touch with Motoport or Aerostitch. They make custom jackets to your measurements.
