Hi All,

I have searched for,but can't find,:shrug2:whether the bars that can fit the ST1100 are standard K75 bars or the RT version. Anybody help?
Are the cables re-routed or can they be left as fitted, also what mods are made to the handlebar cover? (Pics please!)
Sorry if this has been documented before but I just couldn't find it.

Bill, I did a search on the my-mc archives and found this:

"The stock bar cover can be trimmed to look nice and still work with the K75 bars. I found a spare bar cover from another ST'er to cut up so I could save my stock one. This pic was when I had the K75 bars on my bike - click View Full Size for better pic

You will also have to wrap shim around the bars at the bar clamps and bar controls because the BMW bars are a touch smaller diameter than the Honda bars. All my hoses were long enough, however I did have to remove the bolt that holds the front brake hose to the bottom of the tripple clamp and re-route the front brake hose (or throttle cables, can't remember now) to run behind the RH fork instead of around it."

The bars being discussed were from the 1996 BMW K75RT.

This is very intesting, I might try this too.

I was wondering if there were any issues with where the bars rest on full lock, it doesn't look like it, but you never know.

Trying to recall old info here, but something like the Honda Sabre bar works as well.

Also, Flanders Bars can provide just about any width, height, bend ever conceived in 7/8" (ST size) or 1" (Harley and cruiser size.)

I should add, my silver 91 has chrome Triumph Bonneville bars. Lower and narrower than stock. With a lower screen, she has more of a sport bike stance. LipSTick, my 2001 ABS has Ron Majors Bar Risers with stock bars, works well for the long haul.

The K75 bars used to be a pretty popular mod for the early 1100s. I don't recall there being any issues with bar interference at either lock.

Bill might look this thread over if you haven't already done so

Handlebars from other bikes are just a mater of taste and price. I am happy with my GW bars from J.C.Whittney (sp). You can see it in my Mod album.

It is only a matter what will fit you and your stile of riding.

K75/K100 bars will fit and work well. They are on ebay for around $15-20 including shipping ... pictures here

I have converted 2 bikes ('94 and '99) both had long enough cable but did need re-routing of the brake lines which is possible without draining the brake system.

Has anyone used the K75 bars with an ABS 1100? I plan to this winter but it looks like I will need a longer line to run to the front modulator.

Yes, my '94 is an ABS, '99 was standard. Bars were off a K100LT, but bar diameter is the same on the K75. There may be a few differences in the bar angle depending on the model (LT, S, C, T, RT).

When you pull all the levers and switches off the stock bars, re-route them to BEHIND the forks. This will give you the extra length you need to add up to 4" of kick back/up. The BMW bars kick back about 3".

You will need to drill a hole on the underside of the bar to allow the switch clusted to locate it's peg and stop it from rotating.

Took me about 2 hours which included installing heated grips and drinking beer.

Thanks Mark but the post 96 ABS are the IIs and there is a short line that runs under the fairing to the modulator. It is only about a foot long and just long enough to deal with short risers. It looks to me like I will need to replace it with a custom line or at the very least one that is stock but longer.

i assume is still runs from the modulator to the lever via the front of the forks/triple tree. if so try feeding the lever still attached to the hose to the back side of the forks. this route saves 2-3 inches.

to test cut a piece of string to the length of the hose and see where it comes if it is rerouted.

differend animal Mark. It was attatched to the side of the right tube and then to the modulator that is basicly under the clock about 6" you can see it without ant trouble. So going in front of the fork is not a change in routing, it just needs to be longer.
This is one time George is no help :D he is running stock bars. Unless he has a longer line put on by the PO to make his old Heli bars work. George,,,,,,,paging George to the white lobby phone:D

Mark, I'm running stock bars plus 2" Ron Majors risers. No need to change any hoses for that.

I will have to look closer but the K75 bars give you a lot of height, like 4" or so. 2" would be fine but I think I'm pushin' the limit with the K75s. I need to PM Tom M. and ask how tall they are, he is using them on his 1100.

I tried to find BMW K100, K1100, K75 LT bars on Ebay and all were 75.00 plus. I read that the GL1100 '83 were also used. Ebay prices are cheap. Anybody using these? I just don't want to buy a set and have to buy new cables and splice wiring.

I found a set of V65 Sabre bars for a decent price but would need to get them powder coated.

If anybody knows of a set of BMW bars at a decent price let me know.
