This bike came out last year in Canada but did not come to the U.S.....now it is. Same engine and frame as the Ninja 650R but with longer adjustable suspension and different gauges, ergos, etc. Should compete well with the 650 V-Strom. Add a set of Givi luggage and you have a neat light tourer. Most folks probably won't like the front end styling but I like funky bikes so...........

I was looking at a Versys early in the year. Thought is was a pretty neat bike until I sat on it. It is just way too tall for me and the seating position felt very cramped. Of course I only have a 29 inch inseam and also suffer from balloon belly syndrome. Taller slimmer folks might find it suits them quite well. It is nice to see the manufacturers putting out some mid displacement "standard" type bikes again.

That's a very neat lookin' little bike. Lots of nice features, light weight, 5 gal tank - which oughta work pretty good with that small of a bike/engine . . .

BUTTTTTT . . . what's the line at the bottom of the "specifications" page that says  :shrug1: " *not available in California " :shrug1:  ? I kept looking to see if that asterisk pointed to some specific feature of the bike or if it referred to the whole bike. They sell the 650R here, so what gives?

That's weird Pat, I hadn't noticed that untill you mentioned it. The 650R has the identical engine so the Versys (should) be ready to go in CA. I wonder what gives?

If it's not available in California, will it also not be available in all the Northeastern states that follow Cal emssions regs?

I was reading the "details and features" some more and the Versys even has the same catalyzer exhuast underneath that the 650R does. I thought that for some reason they might have made it non-CARB 08 but it really does look like the same engine, right down to the exhaust.

I put out some feelers over on the VROC board. There's some knowledgeable Kawboys over there. I'll post back if I find out anything.
