Key removal from locked bags (1300)

I carry a spare key with me
Same. I never did in decades of riding because. I became a believer when my cheesy key broke off in the gas cap. I'd never done much longer riding than a day ride on the ST so bag access wasn't an issue.

If I have to jumpstart my bike --or roll start it down a hill -- I absolutely do not want to have to shut it off again to close any side cases or reattach anything.
This. Adding some LED lights and testing them with a total of 10min running time killed the battery. All the other factory lights were on as well with the key in IGN. I was on a slight hill and really hoped "bump starting" it would work as the bottom of the hill lead to another hill. It fired up fine. I parked it after a 20min ride to work and it fired right up at the end of the day. I'd also take the long way home so it was good to go. Then onto the Tender.

I've got gas on bikes with the engine running and not been concerned about a fiery death. I've had to bump start other bikes and a short ride give the battery enough charge that I could restart it and be one my way again. But the ST is really too heavy for me to give more than a weak bump on level ground. And even a fresh battery isn't fit for purpose for the 1300 compared to say – the 1100. So without a good 20-30min at speed I'd be concerned about turning it off and restarting without a jump starter and/or buddies to jump it or bump it.

Getting jump capable battery leads (not a Tender harness) and a jump starter are good ways to insure your battery won't die on you and leave you stranded. :roflmao:
