Greetings! Last month I purchased my first bigger bike, of course its an ST1100. A 1991 (yes with the 29 amp, I don't want to even think about it right now) with 46k miles.
I found her on marketplace and negotiated with the owner a bit (around $1000) and once I got up there he asked me what I thought. As a 5'6" young man in my mid 20s, I thought gee Wizz this bike is heavy, tall, yet incredible. I asked politely what the lowest he'd take was. He smiled, turned to my friend, who was my best man at my wedding in May, and said how's 600 bucks sound? I looked at my friend, and looked at the owner. I asked "Are you serious?" To which he said he could tell I really liked er and would take excellent care of the old STeed. Of course I am that exact kind of person who wants to take care of his toys and gets immediately attached and never wants to sell any of it. Some people call that a hoarder but what do they know.
I had driven my mini van several hours up to Lake Erie to a town known as Conneaut, (where there is a large annual D-Day reenactment) which is where the bike happened to be. I reckon the owner saw that I had driven all this way just to look at the bike, and he also happened to be a sentimental type. Probably one of the nicest people I've ever met on Facebook marketplace. Rode her to the water, ate lunch on the lake, and started home. Boy what a comfy ride.
Other than the fact I need to wear my old pipeline boots to ride, I am in love with this bike. I really dread the day the Alternator goes out on me. I really hope this community will be a great resource and a pillar for me on that repair when the day comes.
Thank you for hearing my story and I look forward to many great interactions here.
