Living Room Furniture Ideas?

Yes, you read that right. I'm looking for ideas for temporary use in a living room when all the family gathers together. And while this has nothing to do with motorcycles, this forum has a number of members who are both creative and more than willing to offer an opinion. So here goes...

We bought a new-to-us house. The previous owners had a love seat and two arm chairs in the living room. That'll seat four people. We went with an arm chair & footstool plus a love seat. That works great for us 95% of the time since both girls live out of town. But when both girls (and their husbands) come to visit a couple times a year...we're suddenly up to six people.

The room is about 14 x 16. Compounding the problem, we have a gas fireplace on one side and three large pieces of furniture. Grandfather clock, buffet and china cabinet.

My thought for the two weeks a year that everyone is here, is to get some comfy but compact patio furniture. Something comfortable, but also able to be folded up and stored out of the way for the 50 weeks of the year when no one is here.

Is my idea to "out of the box"? Do you have any alternative ideas?

If you could find them, some old fashioned 'funeral home' chairs are nice.
The kind that are make of real wood and fold up but are very comfortable and sturdy to sit in.

We've got a set of eight folding wooden chairs from Ikea. They spend most of the time folded up in the closet (they even have a hole in the top slat of the back, so they could be hung from a stout dowel if you wanted) but they're readily available whenever the need arises. Also in that closet are two square card tables and one longer rectangular one.

If you need additional sleeping capacity, consider an inflatable mattress / cot. Ours comes with its own built-in inflation / deflation pump and scissors / accordion action legs. It automatically unfolds while it's inflating, and mostly re-folds itself when the air is being pumped out.

My parents always had a bunch of fairly good quality metal folding chairs for large family gatherings - birthdays, holidays, grandparents over, etc. The ones I'm talking about are the padded ones, not the cheap all metal type.

Here is what @ibiketohavefun is talking about. I strongly suggest you sit on an example of what you are going to buy. Some of these things are hard on one's bottom - and back.
