Morning all, so here's a new on to me. In Jan 25 I had a new (but bought a couple a years ago) G547 fitted to my outfit and it has covered 2,000 miles to date. As anyone watching me will have seen I recently had work done to the cooling system of my 1990 ST1100 and as the weather was forecast to be half decent yesterday I thought I'd take the old lady for a run out.

However, during my pre-ride scan I just spotted what looks like a longitudinal split in the centre tread, it goes about 30cm/1 foot around thetyre. I have used G547s for virtually all the bikes 168,000 miles and never experienced this before. Anyone seen anything similar. The tyres DOT indicates manufactured Jul/Aug 2020. We are suffering a bad epidemic of potholes here in the UK, but it's impossible to say if that had any effect!

Oh Dear, Thank you for the correction. Must not have slept well last night! G547 it is and Thread Title and mail duly amended. And, Like you, I have never ever had a problem with these tyres in 30 years of use, hence the question

I'd check age/production date and speed index first... maybe you've been sold a "shelf-queen"...
The tire doesn't look old, good chances to claim an FOC replacement at the dealer...

Good catch! I am not sure I would have spotted that at all. Now I will be more vigilant on my pre-ride checks. Thanks for posting this.

Wow, I have never heard of anything like that happening on a tire that’s less than six years old!!

I am willing to ride on some pretty bad tires,
but I don’t think I would ride on one that’s beginning to split itself in half, and is already a quarter of the way there!!
