When I replaced the speed sensor on my 2007, The oil that came out had a few extremely small bits of metal in it; Is it normal to have some in the oil. Has anyone else noticed this. My son says he always has some in the oil of his 2006 when he changes oil.

My 2008 has a magnetic drain plug.
I usually see shiny bits sticking to it when I remove it, but as you say, there's very little of it, and the metallic detritus is nearly microscopic in size.

Every time you change gear, you are sliding gear dogs sideways into adjacent gears that may be spinning at a different speed, so not unusual to get wear particles from that. This is why we have oil filters and do oil changes. From memory the speed sensor sits low at the back of the gearbox so no suprises if debris accumulates there.

Most of the metal particles we see are too large to do major damage to an engine and they are pulled out by the oil filter. The real damage can be done by a surprisingly small amount of micron sized particles (not necessarily metal) that will stay suspended in the oil and not be removed by the filter - or they coat the filter and activate the bypass spring valve. This stuff gets into an engine as dust - through velocity stacks or no air filter.
