Hand another 'encounter of the 3rd' kind with a "one person protest" on my way home last night:
while legally initiating a right turn into a one-way, a push-biker darts out behind the parked cars against the signed direction of traffic flow,
plus cutting his corner so far left, that he nearly slammed into my trusty Toyota's right(!) headlight... :cautious:
Me successfully saving his life by slamming on the brakes + leaning on the horn was of course thanked for by flipping me off... 🤬

I just did too runs out of Maribel, and I think my knees are done. The two runs were top to bottom, though...

Brenda is on a lookabout up here as well, but I probably won't see her until later.

Good morning everyone

Thanks for the coffee start, Martin.

It's 42°F and cloudy in Rockville. Wet, too, but not raining at the moment. It's just that yesterday's dreary day-long foggy mewling drizzle never evaporated after landing. More of the same is on tap for today: high around 49, cloudy, chance of light rain around 1300 hours... meh.

I've got a dental appointment at 0900; nothing more than a routine cleaning. Other than that, it's likely to be a pretty quiet day.

The weather isn't looking very promising for my upcoming dive trip: sustained winds of 15+ mph with gusts of 20-25 continually from now through a week from now, creating seas with 3 to 4 foot swell. Too rough to be trying to plant coral. They're talking about finding shore-based work for us if we elect to go, but unless it's "meaningful" and "significant" I'll probably bag it. Why drive 2,500+ miles to do make-work?

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.
 
Good morning all and many thanks to you, Martin, for supplying the coffee!

About 19F here this morning, supposedly heading towards 47F later under mostly sunny skies.

Old Man Winter isn't letting go without a fight! Last night he deposited (from visual estimation) between 4 and 5 inches of fresh snow upon the land. After proper caffination and a bit of breakfast my first task will be to clear the driveway.

A few errands around town will be done later and methinks a freshly made turkey pot pie will be for dinner.
I am slightly dreading tomorrow as I need to go to Maine and say what most likely will be my goodbyes to my mother-in-law. She has essentially stopped eating and when not sleeping is telling everyone that her sons aren't visiting, only her daughter (my late wife).

I am thinking I may need adult supervision here at home. Monday I bought a dual axle dump trailer with a payload capacity of 7,000 pounds (aka a Lot of those kilo-things). Yesterday I went to a shop to buy some ammunition reloading supplies and ended up also coming home with a hand held device that that empties the ammunition. In my defense it was shiny and has a laser in the grip!! (IYKYK)

Be safe, be careful and stay focused .... ohhhh shiny!!!

It was a grand day yesterday, we were on the first tour with pontoon boat!
Typical boat! (a large hole in the water, you pour money into)
I took 5 of my neighbours along, 4 of them do not get out on the water much.
The motor performed as it should, we toured many canals as well as a section of the Caloosahatchee River.

Thinking of you both, Stu, stay the course!

Keep your coffee hot, Martin, I don't think they'll let you post here from a jail cell while awaiting trial for assault.
And you may not get enough coffee in the pokey, either, so avoid that if you can.

Last night I took off the Hippo Hands, they both still have little pieces of would-be birds nests. I'll have to vacuum out the remainder, and it's all hung up in the fluffy velour-type lining inside.
What a mess.
At least I didn't give them time to lay eggs in there, but new home construction was progressing rapidly.
Guess I should be glad it wasn't mouses who were building houses.
The bike is parked outside during the day while Kaiser and I are at work.
Going to reach 80 this afternoon - loving it!
Time to feed all the critters, and refill my coffee.
Pets: proof that you can eat, sleep, and beg for food for a living and still be loved.

Thanks. There's still a shred of hope for it; I'll know tomorrow.

The alternative is spending a week in PA at my SIL's, helping to move their aunt into subsidized / rent-controlled housing. You all know how I feel about the woman. I'm not eager to participate.

G'mornin' from SoMD! Slightly less gloomy and warmer this morning, 48F/9C. I can feel the coffee working, calming the beast within. Thanks Martin! Not a whole lot going on here. Another WFH day. No complaints from me. I'll take it while I can get it. The herd likes the extra attention too. Nothing else to report here, boring compared to all you guys/gals.

I would have to call that a laser cat toy/noisemaker to get it past the missus. I don't mind them, but she does. Have fun "playing with the cat"!

I don't really see that as an equivalent, Keith, but it is being helpful. I find the coral expedition much more fascinating...but a 2,500-mile drive? Must be nice to be retired. Whatever happens, hope you find some joy and accomplishment out of it.

And Steve, seeing the ski slopes makes me miss it. A shame you only got two runs in, but I can understand feeling the long ones at the bottom. Do it while you can.

In other news, it looks like I’ve sold Teddy’s sidecar rig. I didn’t have it listed, but accidentally ran across someone looking for that specific, two-person car. I don’t think Teddy will mind, since he prefers the camper for trips.

Currently it is 39F, up from 24F and heading for 63F. No breeze yet, but later, the winds will be out of the SSW @ 20 to 30mph. The Weather Guessers are saying we could get snow tomorrow. We'll see.

Chris will be gone for a good part of the day. I'll see what I can get done, in the meantime.

Good Morning, Thanks Martin. Good thing I'm retired,if I had to do anything complicated it would be a disaster. Not enough coffee yet to get the Brain in Gear. Had a wonderful phone call with Gizmo (Dean) last night. He is in my Area visiting family. Not sure what I will be doing today, other than packing for visiting my mom and Sister on Vancouver Island tomorrow. Fairly warm here today 8 C with a high of 11, but it doing that four letter word that starts with a R . Supposedly getting some Sunshine just about when the Sun goes down, ppffft. Dear God, I'm soooo glad I live in Britain :oops:

Beautiful day here in Gloucestershire, 16c, dry roads and blue skies. Managed to the the solo out for a quick blip, should be able to give the outfit a go tomorrow as the weather is supposed to be a repeat of today. Found a Polish run motorcycle repair shop on Facebook to fix my coolant leak. Amazingly he was just 2 miles from home (I didn't even know he existed!), he had just done a complete ST1100 coolant rebuild (including new radiator) for another Polish rider who lives in the area so I had a good idea he knew what he was doing. Quite a few seals, hoses and thermostat involved.

Our guest room is now cat-proofed. The door never quite latched correctly (the strike plate was too high, by 1/8" or so) but until yesterday or today it wasn't an issue. Then this morning, I caught the cat letting herself in and making herself comfortable on the bed or the spare blanket folded up at the foot of the bed. Not Acceptable. After removing her four times, in the space of a fwe minutes it became clear that this was going to be either (a) a fun new game for her, or (b) a contest of patience, will, persistence, and vigilance. Neither of those was a scenario in which I felt I could prevail in the long term.

Happily for humankind, I have enough imagination to envision a solution, and the tools required to implement it. A bit of work with a file soon had the hole in the soft brass strike plate extended far enough south for the door latch to spring to its fully-deployed position when the door closed, and a 1/16" thick walnut shim (never, EVER, throw away scrap pieces of hardwood that might someday turn out to be useful in some unforeseeable way) behind the strike plate lifted it far enough from the door trim that the latch now presses firmly against it but not so far that the door binds on the strike plate.

Job done, and a disappointed cat won't be getting in there again unless we are foolish and fail to latch the door.
