G'Day...

18°/32°C, glaring blue skies, soggy @ 67% RH, the short walk across the parking lot felt like having lost the fight with an evil spirit in the sauna... 🥵
but there is a cold front advancing from the Atlantic, thunderstorms/significant rainfalls predicted for the afternoon and throughout the night... ⛈️

torn from peaceful sleep somewhere before 0400hrs by the alarming impression of fighting a... 🐻
yeah, ze GF snoring again... ;)
rolled around for a while, gave up and relocated onto the living-room couch to find a little slumber... 😴

drag myself through the rest of the day... 😒

at least we're halfway to the weekend 😎

Good morning everyone

Thanks for the start, Martin.

It's sunny (with the usual summer milk-sky haze overhead, of course) and 73°F in Rockville- pretty tolerable, really- and feels like 74. The picture changes quickly, though: by 0800 the 76 actual degrees will magically feel like 87 and by 1600 the 97 actual will feel like 109. I'm thinking seriously about bailing out on the scheduled half-a-round of goof that is supposed to commence at 1605.

More of the same will be on tap through Sunday. That's bad news for yours truly, as I may be forced to limit the final bicycle training rides before I head to Iowa in a couple weeks. I got out yesterday for 25 miles on the C&O Canal tow path, which has the virtue of being heavily shaded for most of its length. It'll be a tough choice in the future: the shade is good, and there's no traffic to contend with, but it's a bit rough and beats me up. Also, it's 184.5 miles of sameness and I've covered the entire length several times so it's not especially entertaining.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

Good morning and thanks for the coffee start, Martin.

It's sunny and 67 in MA this morning, heading to 92, later.

I didn't go to the gym, yesterday, but the guns are nice and clean , now.
My Samsung S23 was curling a bit , starting to look like a banana, so I went looking for a new one.
The battery was expanding and the case was bowed and open.
T-Mobile phones came with various prices and plans , and when I asked if I couldn't just buy one for cash, the rep sent me to Best Buy for an unlocked phone.
I bought an S26+, and had my old phone data and apps transferred to the new one.
The only issue, so far , is that my hearing aids won't pair to the new phone.

Today, I'll head over to the VA for an exam.
We'll see where I end up, afterward.

Enjoy your day ,
Steve

Good morning, folks. Ahhh coffee, an absolute must.

And coffee is the warmest thing I'll be ingesting today, because it's freaking hot out there. As Keith said, it's still somewhat tolerable right now at 23°C/73°F, but the humidex is already high at 29°C/84°F. There is a serious heat warning in effect for this afternoon, when the temperature will reach 33°C/91°F with a feels-like of 46°C/115°F. Ick. There is also a serious chance of strong, damaging thunderstorms from this afternoon into tonight. Truly hope we don't have a repeat of the flooding event of 2 Saturdays ago - people are still cleaning up after that one and will be for some time. So it's going to be an indoor kind of day; hope I can keep my living space tolerably cool.

Everybody have a good one, stay safe, go safely.

Patty

Good morning and good start to a day off midweek here on Canada Day
Should make this (wednesday) a permanent holiday- two on / one off / two on / two off
might not bad
Sounds like some high temperatures out there
so far in these parts weve had some good weather I have to count my blessings
got out for a couple late night rides on the ST and hope to do some more today
If you're in the heat stay close to those shade trees and remember lots of water/ no alcohol is the way to go
Wish everyone a safe ride and happy Canada Day

Thanks Martin, it's hot here and the coffee is hotter.
Nice.
Glad you're bringing another rider into the mix, Catcher. New riders are on the decline, it seems. Much discussion about this sad trend.
Good news!
The coffee filter behaved this morning, and everything worked as it should, with no remediation necessary.
It's the little wins that keep us motivated.
Yesterday on my ride back to the office from lunch - which was 2 pints of Hagen Dasz from Walmart, which is the 9th wonder of the world to our FIFA visitors - the air temp on the bike indicated 100° F.
At 60mph.
Yeah.
Summer.
I'm diggin' it.

The temperature indicated on my bicycle Garmin yesterday afternoon was in the mid-to-upper 80s, in the shade. Had I been riding in the sun it might've reached triple digits, as the unit sits in direct sunshine and consequently tends to read hot. I was glad to be riding a heavily-shaded route.

I was comfortable, as long as I was moving.
Felt hotter this morning, when I uncharacteristically took the interstate and was creeping up the interstate at 84°... in 1st gear at 5mph.

Alabama may be the last of our 50.

Good Morning, Happy Canada, thanks Martin for coffee and conversation starting, my Grandma gave me some wisdom when I got married, be grateful if She snores , you know she is a alive and with you. Still hard to get enough sleep though. Today's agenda,, what agenda. Weather Clouds 60 F high 67 no wet stuff forecast. Need laundry detergent, take Van or bike? Store is like 12 minutes away. Well coffee cup is empty so getting a refill, have fun Y'all G

Good afternoon all!
Work used to be about a 20 minute drive (in the morning), back when I lived in Kitchener.
Going home (on the good days, on two wheels) took up to about 3 hours!
I toured anywhere and everywhere!
The weather is beautiful here, a wee bit warm, but tolerable!
Currently 81F, feels like 90 & possibly a thunderstorm!

G'dafternoon from the office! It was nicer than expected leaving the house, but I know this afternoon will not be so. Therefore, I opted to drive in and take advantage of the Av's self contained air conditioning that works at any speed. Traffic in was fairly light too.

Today is exceptionally slow as even more ppl have departed early for the holiday wknd. Nobody for volleyball, no jazz rehearsal, either. So I'll just bide my time until the whistle blows. Then fight the mass exodus like yesterday when at least three nitwit (or nefarious) drivers tried to squeeze me or roll into my lane. A good blast of my train horn stopped each assault. Today in the Av, I doubt I'll have such issues as it is much more massive albeit a puny Toyota horn.

Mowing didn't happen yesterday as I worked on the daughter's Prius that's been shutting down due to inverter overheating caused by a failing coolant pump. Did that, oil change, and rotated the tires. Mowing is likely happening tonight. A few days ago I would have criticized putting lights on a riding mower thinking "who's gonna mow in the dark?" Well, I may be carrying a flashlight tonight to avoid as much heat as possible.

Second last to Maryland, I'll bet. Around here they still have some weird sympathy for the horse-and-buggy crowd that call themselves Amish. NM they never commute into DC, but heaven forbid they let the few riders get out of the way. Instead, everyone has to be equal even though some equate that to some being "more equal than others" and do it anyways. NTM the "courtesy pass" I was used to in Texas is also verboten thanks to them. Here's to hoping...

Take care y'all!
