I just use one of the baby hi pressure Chinese pumps that can be bought anywhere for about $10 and take the plastic cover off, exposing the metal cylinder, motor and gears that do the work. Saves a lot of space. Used it many times, unfortunately. It does great.

You can spend a LOT more.

So, what was your old compressor and were you happy with it?

I have no idea. It was stripped down and worn. when a friend gave it to me that decided to quit riding. It was in his garage. I put a cord on it and it worked the one and only time I used it. Shot now though. That's why I put the question out to see what others are using.

Oh. And thanks to you others that gave usefull replies.

I keep a tiny 12v Slime pump under the seat that I picked up at AutoZone for around $10.
I tested to make sure it works, but really only plan on a single "real" use.

Randall - This is the Airman Mini Compressor I use. Its nice because they include 3 different leads in the packaging - SAE (battery tender type lead), 12V cigarette plug, and a mini set of crocodile clips (for direct connection to battery)

I bought it in May'14 & over the last 2 months I've used it about 8 times to top-up air at home before going out on a ride. Its really convenient to just plug in into the cigarette lighter & top up the air to desired levels! :) Hope this helps.

Currently unavailable on Amazon, great review & ratings --> http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002UEKXOW/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1

thank you sir. That has to be one of the most compact units I've seen. Definitly my favorite so far. I haven't seen that one in my online searches so far. Forums like this are great ways to find really useful stuff. Thank you!

Aww Randall, I have to go back and thank this forum :) . Everyone recommended the Sparrow/spearman compressor in archived threads, and I researched it to find they were now called Airman .

Really glad I could be of help. It's certainly a compact little thing. There's many in this size & price on Amazon.

Happy buying! :)

Vishnu

Yes. I really enjoy reading about what others have found for their bikes. I've found some really good additions by just poking through threads. I'm going to try to find on of those. It would fit my needs perfectly.

I bought and reviewed the Harbor Freight compressor awhile back: CLICKY.

EDIT: Just before I hit the submit button, I remembered that I was getting near 10,000 posts and thought it would be a big let-down if a one-liner about a cheap tire pump was it. This was it.

Just ordered the Airman on Amazon after reading some reviews and side by side tests on a couple of motorcycle online magazines. It's Prime qualified (love that Amazon Prime) so free 2 day shipping. I'll probably have it on Monday. $30. Thanks again.

You're a Mod... You could delete it.... And then say something very wise and profound for such a milestone event!
Well,,, no probably not!
:)

Besides the Airman you might take a look at the Slime 40001. It will fit in the palm of your hand and comes with a case to hold the hose and power lines as well as several adapters. Pepboys has it for about $30. I have one for each of my bikes, easier than forgetting to swap and leave it at home. :(

At the same size as the Airman is a little slime unit you can find at WalMart or Amazon.

Cost is $10 and available today (if you have a store nearby). Just throw it under the rear seat alongside the ECU. Used it quite a few times for my own and other tires. Doesn't come with the multiple cords (just has a 12' cigarette lighter (er,, accessory plug)) like the Airman does, but it works just the way it is if you have a socket handy.

Thanks for the suggestions Bryon and TC. I was just about ready to buy a Slime unit, but then I read this review: http://www.webbikeworld.com/r3/motorcycle-tire-air-pump/slime-pump-vs-airman-sparrow/ and then found that the Airman Tour, which replaced the Sparrow, was the same price on Amazon as the Slime unit so I did purchase the Airman Tour. I hope it works out. Better than nothing which I have now. LOL. I have a nice tire repair kit so and whether I have a flat or someone else has one. I can get 'em fixed up and back on the road.

No Mr. TC. If you read my post again, you'll see that I said they were both the same price. The Slime 40001 unit on Amazon was $29.79. The Airman does not make the Sparrow anymore, but has replaced it with the Tour and it sold on Amazon for $29.99 (practically the same price to me. I rounded both up to $30). The Slime unit at Wally World, that I found, is the 40019 model and is $19.95 (it says jut reduced from $29.95) I'm not sure the Slime unit you mention for $10 would fill a tire that has no air. I know I do want one that's reliable and pumps air faster than the Slime units I read about in the reviews. That seemed to be a common complaint, along with poor connector to the valve stem, on the Slime reviews and compliments on the Airman reviews. After reading the review that I linked to in the post and a couple of Youtube video reviews on both, I went with the Tour since it seems to be much faster at filling a tire and more reliable. I do plan on making a couple of adapters for the power cord on the Tour however. A couple of alligator clips on one adapter and a connector to match my battery tender on another since it comes straight off of the battery and is a very short cord. I carry a good tire repair kit and I know I can fix my tire, with those two adapters I'm sure I can fix most anybody's tire that I see in distress along the road if the opportunity arises. Below is the information I found as far as pricing goes on the units I discussed above:
