I removed my right side mirror cover on my 2007 ST 1300 with the help of IgoFar speaking to me over the telephone.

Then that same day I accidentally bumped my fat rump against the left mirror while I was walking past the bike (from the rear to the front) and I knocked that thing completely off the bike and sent it clattering across the garage floor!

It turns out that mirror did not have a tether holding it to the bike, and it pulled out the electrical wires.

TODAY's project: I finally reconnected it. Here's a photo showing the homemade tether that I fabricated to keep it from falling off the motorcycle completely again (and ending up on the road if I were moving). .

It works. Both as a running light and as a turn signal.

PS: Yes, it's a black mirror cover on silver ST, but I am about to purchase a silver cover from a seller here.

On my ST's mirrors, all three of the clip-in attachment points had the circular tension rings / clamps on them. Igofar told me that this is not correct -- only two out of the three should have the spring loaded circular ring clamp.
But now, a couple months later, I don't recall which of the three should not have that clamp ring on it. So I took a guess and left it off the bottom one.
Can anybody confirm if this was right ?

Yes, this is right.

Besides clipping on, they have a large ZipTie that gets screwed to the mirror cover. And what I do, is to use a smaller ziptie, place it through the head of the big ziptie and and put it thru the head of the smaller ziptie.

I have had my mirror covers knocked off and just dangle, instead of breaking the wires and falling off completely.

I have a large zip tie thread permanently through the hole in the mirror pivot. Another zip tie threaded around one of the indicator screw posts. I had to lift the indicator out to get to this. A removable zip tie to hold them together.

Someone ridiculed this arrangement quoting 3 points of failure instead of one. But this method has never failed me whereas other methods using screws through zip ties have.

After your sad news yesterday, you won't be needing a replacement mirror.
Time (soon) to work on finding a replacement BIKE.
Best of luck!
