Mixed marriage

I don’t know where I’m going to put this one, however I’ve been wanting to have a sidecar rig for numerous years. A friend of mine was downsizing his fleet and offered for sale a 1980 Dnepr/BMW(750R5) rig with a cargo box instead of a tub, for a price that was too good to pass up.
The engine upgrade gives me a more dependable engine, an increase of 16 horsepower and a better alternator.
Having a cargo box instead of a passenger tub saves me from having a passenger that may have the potential of not surviving my piloting skills.
I’m just planning to have some fun on local country roads, use it for camping trips.
I will in the future get a passenger tub, and upgrade to a springer front end. However in the meantime I shall go scare myself.

Go slow learning the sidecar rig. One of our ride leaders, who is admittedly a bit of an enthusiastic rider, managed to lunch the fiberglass tub on his beemer rig when he went off the road. No injuries, except to his pride and the side car. He got a new tub from the manufacturer and mounted it w/ no problem.

The forks look like they have too much trail for a sidecar. Does turning to the right require a lot of effort on the handlebars?

Thanks. Years ago, my first experience with the rig, as I was shifting into 4th I wasn’t quick enough to get back on the throttle, the momentum of the side are pushed the rig to turn left and I ended up crossing the roadway into a potato field. (No injuries and the rig was intact) I’ve had more uneventful piloting of various rigs.
I have a lot to learn and shall proceed with caution.

I'm interested inc sidecars, but not motivated to pony up the cash for one.
I did really like the rig that @Nashcat had, with the ST1300 as driver / puller / tug.
And I follow hack owners in their forum on ADVrider.
For now, the trailer does very nicely for me and for Kaiser... plus, I can unhitch it easily and quickly.

I concur, that has been a major stumbling block for me. Second hand, the prices are wild.
This one was in my parameters, I was in the right place at the right time.

One of the Guzzi guys (what I call the folks who come to Guzzi Breakfasts) had a Ural. Those sidecars have a driven outboard wheel and he used it around his farm in the winter (read snow(.

This one is a one wheel drive. Dnepr also makes a 2 wheel drive, it’s different than the Ural 2WD system. The Ural doesn’t have a differential and should only be engaged in slippery conditions, as you mentioned in snow. Mud and gravel would work too
