Morning Martin & All from lots of clouds, in Southern Utah!

Currently it is 76F, heading for 77F, with possible thunderstorms. And the way it's looking right now, we just might get some! We'll see! :well1: In the meantime, the winds have been blowing from the SSW @ 11 to 14mph, and later, from the SSE @ 17 to 27mph.

@steve3b3: :birthday: and hope it's a fun one! :hat3:

The last month or so, Utah has been getting clobbered with fires and now monsoons, which are causing a lot of flash flooding. The weather apps are changing daily. But, so far, it's still looking good for WeSTOC 30! And I hope it stays that way! :pray1:

Today, I'll be running around town to pick up a few things. And I need to get out a couple of WeSTOC 30 emails.

Eggs, bacon, toast, OJ & Lemon tea. And there are plenty of cold Pepsis, in the garage fridge.

Anyone :bk13:, have a great day on the roads! :hat3:

Sooooo...

Grocery shopping is generally a mundane, unremarkable chore that doesn't merit mention, but today's excursion had an enjoyable side note.

You may recall that I have a thing for hats. Hats in general, but in particular for cowboy hats. Ever since I was old enough to say "Little Joe Cartright", cowboy hats have been an object of special interest and appeal to me.

Four summers ago I splurged and bought two, one a white straw (actually, it turns out that it's paper with a lacquer coat to stiffen and preserve it, but let's persist with the illusion and call it straw) for warmer weather, and the other a gray felt number, worn only when the temperature is under 40°F.

Unless the weather is foul, I rarely if ever leave the house without wearing one or the other, depending on the season.

I had my summer straw on today as I rambled through the grocery store, when I spotted a fellow I've seen a few times before, and who has seen me and commented on my hat. He, too, generally sports a stylish, well-chosen straw cowboy hat. It's the hats, and nothing but the hats, that have caused us to notice one another.

I sidled up to him (he hadn't spotted me yet) and said "Mister, I feel like we've had this conversation before." Turning to me, he immediately smiled and replied "Nice hat."

We ended up leaving the store at the same time. On our way out I confirmed that like me he switches lids with the seasons, but he takes his cue from the calendar rather than the thermometer. His hats change on the same schedule that regulates when Baptists and Methodists change their Sunday shoes and belts: white between Memorial Day and Labor Day, brown the rest of the year.

I also confirmed my guess that he's Hawaiian by birth and upbringing and heritage. Next time I see him I'll ask if he's a ukulele player.
