My experience with Shinko Tires.

Inflating the front tire to 42 psi has eliminated the wobble but now it has a harmonic vibration at 45-50 mph in 3rd gear. At higher speeds and in other gears it is very smooth.
 
I've commented on these issues elsewhere, but don't have the time to look them up right now, so I'll just do a short comment here.
The Shinko tires are VERY sensitive to being mounted correctly on the rim.
I've found several sets that folks complained about this "wobble", and what it turned out to be Each and Every time was the tire was mounted on a dirty rim.
Most folks who used places like cycle gear and such, had the most problems.
They just yank the old tire off, throw the new tire on, and are done with it.
Turns out the dirt/debris on the rims don't allow the stiff sidewall to seat correctly alot of the times, causing the wobble.
I've corrected several sets that were mounted like this, and had a wobble, buy simply removing the tire, and carefully cleaning the rim, then using the correct tire paste to remount the tire correctly.
If your watching someone air up your tire, and the bead pops three or four times per side (common on dirty rims) its telling you that the tire is fighting to seat correctly, and will wobble.
The tires should be aired up with ONE loud pop per side, once seated as such, you will find there is NO wobble with these tires.

So, are you cleaning the rims down to bare metal, and using the correct tire paste?
When you seat them, are you using an open air chuck and getting them to pop one time, or are you hearing it strain and work its way on to the rim?
Despite what youtube video's and facebook recommends, I do NOT use windex or soap, but rather tire paste designed for the proper use.
I mount all my own tires too, and never have these issues when mounted correctly.

Thanks for the advice about mounting and cleaning the rim, can't count how much money and time spent trying to figure that wobble out. Yeah I have the shop install my tires where I buy them, current set are good ,so they might have cleaned the rims.
 
I’m 61 this month. I’ve been changing tires since I was 12. I’ll probably just swap the tire for a Metzeler Z8. I suspect that it is not a good idea to use a cheap tire on the front of these bikes. I noticed it was much easier to put on than the major brands, so it must be equally easy to take off which does not inspire confidence from a safety point of view. I imagine it could easily come off the rim if it went flat while riding.

I think it is just poor quality control.
 
Me thinks its just poor installation, as I've corrected so many sets that folks thought it was the quality of the tire, and it turned out it wasn't.
If you think Metzeler tires are good quality, think again, the non-German ones delaminated on so many HD's that the shops would refuse to even install or sell them anymore.
And the Z6 and Z8 are known for vibration on these bikes, enough that folks take them off after a couple months and throw them away.
I'll use the German versions on "some bikes" but none on the Honda ST's.
But of course YMMV.
 
Best milage I have gotten was on a set of Michelin commander 2's Put over 30,000 kilometers on a set ,but that was on my 81 Silverwing interstate which weighed 620 lbs. Not available when I needed tires for the ST.

I've never heard of cleaning the mounting surface of rims. Maybe it's just because my rims are never dirty. I'll keep that in mind, though. I mount my own tires and use No-Mar tire paste and a Marc Parnes balancer. I'm super anal about balance. I've never had any tire-related wobble or vibration issues. Btw...I can't imagine a properly lubed rim hanging up a tire so it is doesn't just seat with a single pop.

I'd dump the Shinko's and get something better. I don't have anything to compare them to since the bike is new to me, but my Bridgestone T32's have a great profile for direction changes and don't wander when riding in a straight line. I'm sure I'll wince when I have to pony up the price of replacements, though.

The back tire is a Shinko Raven and it seems fine but I won’t use a Shinko Verge on the front again. I wish they made a Raven for the front.

Of course Verge is a name for the side of the road…
