My new 1998 ST 1100

I got the bike back after getting 2 new tires and the carb work done. I love having this bike and my VTX 1300-different rides. The thing is-I think it idles too fast-a hair above 1500 RPM warmed up in Neutral. Shouldn't it be closer to 1000?
1100 is what mine runs warmed up. open the gas tank lid and see on the right side a knob to adjust idle speed.

1250 rpm is what they say. Yes, there is a chromed knob inside the gas filler door. If there isn't, it's fallen out of the rubber clip and you'll have to remove the "tank" lid to fish it out. When you turn it make sure you only turn the knob part as the cable sheath can turn some too, making it an inexact procedure.

I just found it easier to line up the rpm needle with the next tick mark above 1000. I think that was my reasoning way back when I actually read the manual.

owners manual says 1200 +/-100

which seems right to me because if you set it too low then when the fan kicks on and the revs drop a little the idle isn't as smooth.
Like I wrote, I haven't had one for a while and specs. by memory is dangerous.

This might have been mentioned to you already but keeping final drive splines maintained will save you a world of pain and expense further down the line. If not done already, thorough clean and lube with Loctite moly paste, the paste is expensive but well worth it and a pot lasts many years. Wishing you many happy miles on your new Pan!
