Hi!

So I managed to complete mock up enuf to complete the highway peg fit.
Am tickled! I like the look and function and I think I have $35 into those Amazon pegs.
I didn’t use the original clamp setup, just made a hole in that guard tube and thru bolted right back into foot peg and it isn’t going anywhere. No clamp slipping pegs here! Seems okay just sitting on the bike, should work, roadtest when shakedown happens.
I sacrificed the old plastic covers to initially cut, once the other side is sorted then I should have clean dimensions that I can final fit a new pair.

Not to rain on your parade ( it LOOKS great!) , but I am guessing drilling a 5/16" or 3/8" hole in the tubing of the guard may seriously impact its ability to withstand deforming if you drop the bike.

Agree, did think that, and yes it may, but at that point, such impact is going to deform that bar anyways. I was surprised how thin it was. If it was structural, frame, swing arm, different story. Oh well it won’t be the first thing I screw up!

I made pretty much the same set-up over 100,000 miles ago on my ST1300, so far I've really enjoyed the extra footing location with no problems. It also makes a good place to hang the helmet at some stops.

Come to think of it I've done this to 2 of my St1100's with even more miles and no problems. None of them have been tested in a drop - so far they have all been "lucky Pegs"

Agree, did think that, and yes it may, but at that point, such impact is going to deform that bar anyways.

If it does, that is called the 'engine guard' (left: 64216-MCS-G00; right 64206-MCS-L01) and they are shown on Ron Ayers website as available (now). If they get bent, you can replace one ($117 or $137). Better yet, watch ebay for a used one.

It really just dawned on me that, this bike, while new to me and making me all kid like and happy and such., I am way late to this party and if it hasn’t already been done before, I am not going to be the one..
Gonna go sit over here and try to get a grip on what it means to get old.

I am thrilled though I have something here that I am enjoying.
