Just finished the test ride on my new Avon Storms, thanks Two Brothers Tires for the jiffy service! Also thanks to all who have posted in the forums about their experiences changing rear wheel bearings. The rear ones were real stiff but the fronts were OK. It rolls alot easier now.
After much pondering and many attempts to get enough drift on the left bearing to knock it out I, rather my wife, hit on a novel approach to get the distance spacer to move so you can get to the bearing.
First take a ball peen hammer and put the round end centered on the right bearing with the flat striking surface parallel to the wheel. Take a small hand held sledge and strike the flat surface of the ball peen a couple real good. The distance spacer came loose and I had plenty of room the get my punch on the left bearing to drive it out.

Hi Kanem

I have the Avon Storms on my 05 ST, they seem to work well, pretty sticky as well as a good ride, wet weather track seems good too. I hope the wear factor is good. at least 10k for the rear.

Ever get N.E. Florida area look me up I like to ride. Souther Ga is nice too.

Good idea with the ball peen... you need to keep her around when you work!

You should never strike two hammer faces together. I have the embedded shrapnel to prove it. At least wear good eye protection if you are going to do it anyway.

Put new Avon Storm ST's on my 05 ST prior to our Honda groups ride from South Fla to Niagara Falls this month. They were perfect. Rode well with no issues and we did do some rain riding in New York and Pennsylvania. I too hope to get 10K out of these

Kanem,

What was the size of both front and rear? Avon's website lists tires for the 1100 Pan yrs 96' and 02' as 120/80ZR18 front and 160/70R17 rear.

Other sizes listed are 110/80ZR18 and 160/60ZR17.

The Avon Storms I installed have been the best overall tires I have tried. They seem to be ideal for the ST. They will wear faster than the Michelin PR's, Pirelli Diablo's or the stock Bridgestones that came on the bike. I am almost to the wear bars on my rear tire with 7500 miles on them. The front tirs look like they may go at least 10,000 miles. That is with one-up riding, 42 psi in the tires and moderate riding technique.

I just put a rear AV56 on my 1100 and then road it almost 2000 miles to CA and back. Now the front is ready to be replaced too - with a AV55. I haven't used them in the rain yet but hope they do much better than the Excedra G548 rear Sportmax D205F that were on it when I bought it 2 years ago. Both lasted 10,000+ miles. My 1100 Std calls for 110/80 18 and 160/70 17. Many other threads about various ties sizes for std vs ABS vs 1300 sizes.
