New here!

Thanks been on the hunt for a ST-1100 for awhile now, hopefully soon!
Welcome aboard.

Have you read this?

If and when the purchase of a new to me ST-1100 takes place, assuming it's one with a 40amp alternator already, what would be the first mods you guys would do? I am working my way through the tech articles here, just curious on the importance of said mods as my aim is many trouble free miles. Mainly, are there any that NEED to be done by the time of first ride because this or that component has a track record of failure, OR, should I pack an extra component that's prone to failure? Thanks in advance for all replies!

I have a 1991 and absolutely love it. My wife prefers the backseat ride to our 1300 so we most of our 2-up riding on the older ST.
Do be aware that many new spares are drying up. That makes a post 1996 a better choice. I just had an experience buying the recommended spark plugs....only found two of the CR8EH-9 NGK's locally. So I resorted to ordering them from an online distributor. Don't know why I forgot to replace my spares after the last spruce-up.
All that aside, there is much good help available on this site.

Mods? Modifications are a personal preference type of thing. Maintenance is a separate issue. The only changes to Honda's recommendations might be to change the brake fluid more often and check the rear wheel splines at least every 10k miles (if you run darkside, otherwise with every tire change).

It seems i have acquired a 99'! Thanks to a fellow forum member. (More to come on that later).

Out of curiosity, what parts website do you guys tend to gravitate towards for the oem replacements?

I was a big user of Partzilla for OEM parts; their site is friendly and the online parts fiches were easy to use. Sadly they stopped shipping to my part of the world around COVID so I now use Webike in Japan; not such a nice website but very decent prices and I have had nothing but good service out of them.
