Helmets New Nolan N103

H20SKIER

Well I just got my new Nolan N103 N-Com helmet, Man what a change from My old N100e!! The flip down sun visor is inside and very nice!!!! Works excellent. The helmet is defintily quieter that my old one and less air leakage around the shield. I ordered a large which my old one was but it is a little to tight so I ordered an XL and I will send whatever one I don't want back. I ordered it from Extreme supply last Sunday and recieved it on Tuesday!!! Man waht fast service, I called them about the fit and they said no problem send what ever one you don't want back for a full refund. Also I went to the local BMW shop which are the only people in my area that carry Nolan, and they wanted $384 for a helmet that I paid $295 with free shipping!!!!! Anyway I love my new helmet!!!!! Corsa Red by the way!!!!!!!

I did the exact the same thing. I had a black N100E in a size large and decided to go with a red N103. I originally ordered a large and had to return it for the XL. Extremesupply took a whole four days to ship to me and the return was hassle free. I don't know if it is any more quiet than the N100E, but I do find the venting to be better. I also think the release mechanism is an improvement over the N100E. I am enamoured with the internal sun shade. I wear contact lenses which tend to make my eyes pretty sensative to sunlight. I have always had to wear sunglasses in the past. On my first ride with the N103 I immediately noticed how much of my periferial vision had be obscurred by the frames of the sunglasses I had been wearing all these years. I don't think I will ever go back to a helmet that does not have this feature. The internal shade could be just a little bit darker, but overall I am very happy with the N103.

Glad to hear they are less noisy. Does the lid come down easier, I always seem to have a hard time locking mine and that was from the day I got it.

Yep, I tried-on a N103 a couple of months back - and was very impressed.

I currently wear a white N102 (see avatar); and before that I had a silver N101 Vintage VPS. I really like Nolan flip fronts.

Any first-hand reports/appraisals of the N-COM Bluetooth Kit would be appreciated. Hooked-up with the new Garmin Zumo 660 wireless technology, would seem to be the ultimate communications system IMHO.

But I'm wondering how well a combo like that would work, and if it's all worth the quite considerable outlay .. :?:

Anyone got anything to add?

Not really a hard time locking it, but sometimes takes an extra push. Most of the time, the first click does it, I have found that sometimes I get something in the way like a jacket collar, cigar, never try and close it with a popsickle in your mouth.

Is the chin area tight? I barely have room for a mic. In fact it presses againsts my mouth. This is with my current N 102.

Man that's a great price!! My old modular caberg with the visor is dying and I can no longer get visors for it.... I tried the Large N-103 and it was a bit tight. I was told they have different cheek blocks for $15 to make it more "user friendly".

Next on my list....

It's great to hear all of the good experiences with the N103. I'm on my second N102, and I've been fairly pleased with it. The N-Com system works great by the way. I tried the 103 and was VERY displeased with it. Found it to be much noisier than the 102, and the internal visor was not tinted as much as the 102's external one.

Every helmet modern helmet I've tried seems very noisy to me. So far this includes Shoei, Nolan, and HJC. If I ride for even an hour without earplugs, my ears ring for 2 days afterwards. So I use earplugs. I hate them but I use them. My last ride was a Sabre and a Bell Star full face helmet. They were so quiet I didn't even consider earplugs, or has 20 plus years done strange things to the memories?

Also do any of you science/engineering types know if it's possible to use active noise cancelling in a helmet. Built-in active noise cancelling plus bluetooth is something I would pay serious money for.

Yes, but I position mine to the side of my mouth on the cheek.

Yes, room is close with a mic. I located and marked the position directly in from of my mouth. Then placed mic against it and drew a line around the mic. Cut the covering with an exacto knife and removed. I then carved out the shape of the mic with a Dremel tool, leaving a thickness of foam. Replaced black covering and touched up exposed white area with a black permanent marker. Mic now recesses a little more than halfway into liner, enough to keep it away from my lips. When I put on the helmet it is now easy to swing mic into position.

I love this helmet but It is driving me crazy. I can not get the visor to stay up. I do not like riding with it down unless I have to. Has anyone had a problem keeing their visor in the up position? I ordered a new visor without the pinlock (I don't like that either personally) maybve that will do it.

Ditto, I like my visor just above my line of sight and my windscreen just below my LOS. It seems like anything above 50mph, the visor wants to come down. I disassembled the mechanism to see if I could tighten it but found no adjustment.

Hi,
I just got (I mean it was on the porch when I got home) my new N103.. Got it from WingWorks and took 6 days to come... $295 no shipping, no tax....
It came broken... The front vent latch was not connected on one side and when you move it, it does not move the vent.. Also the right cheek pad was dislodged and it wont snap back into the little hole... I get the impression it was a demo off the shelf or just poor QC at the factory. Dealer is sending me a United parcel invoice to send it back...

more waiting........... It fits just great and I can't ride today cause it's RAINING like crazy..

I wore Schuberts for a while. First a Concept then a C2. That's when I got spoiled for the flip-down sun visor. Now I have an HJC Sy-max.

The reason I switched - long story - When I rode an ST1100 I had a bad habit of removing the face shield. With the bike's tall fixed screen the wind wasn't a problem. Only time I used the face shield was in the rain. Two years ago I left home on my annual two-week road trip, had only had the 1300 for a week and was 150 miles away - and coming into a rain storm - when I reached up to pull down the shield - you guessed it, one of the stupidest things I've done - I'd left it at home. Instead of turning around, I put my chin on the tank bag and thanked my lucky stars and Mr. Honda for that adjustable screen.

At the first real stopping place in upstate New York, I looked and looked for somewhere to buy a new shield. Nada. As far as I know or can find out, Schuberth doesn't export to U.S. any more. So I broke down and bought the HLC at a local Honda shop (not the best price I could have found but whatayagonnado), shipped the Schuberth home. Since then, I've come to appreciate the fit of the HJC and I actually prefer it. Except that I really miss the sun visor.

Next year it'll be time to replace that helmet. I'm thinking that it'll probably be an N-103 in Motorrad Yellow.

But no one in my area sells Nolans so I've never tried one on.

I'm also interested in hearing about how the N-Comm system works.

I bought the J&M system for the Nolan N-103. I have been to two of the large shops here in Naples that handle Nolan helmets and they have not been able to get any replacement parts except face shields and internal visors. I am going on a three week long trip at the end of this month. I will decide whether or not to keep it or after that trip. I can not stand to ride with my shield down. If I can't find a way to keep the shield in the up position the helmet will have to go. I am hoping there will be a Nolan rep at European Bike Week that I can get to work on it. JD

Is there a way to remove the shield and install some O-rings that might provide some friction? This works on HJC Symax II, not sure what the Nolan mounting system is......

You've struck gold with that one, Rayzer. I'm looking at my Sy-Max and wondering what diameter O-ring I should get. Have you done this?
