Good morning everyone

The French roast is ready, so come and enjoy some before the end of the world hits us this evening. Once that happens you'll be here indefinitely so bring PJs and a change of clothes, just in case. We have plenty of fresh new guest toothbrushes so don't worry about that. The latest warning says it won't really get started until 2300 hours though but once it does we're in for it until the wee hours of Monday morning.

In the meantime it's 8°F and feels like -12. Can it actually snow at those temperatures? Supposedly it's clear now but it must be expected to cloud over, as I've never seen snow and freezing rain fall out of clear blue skies. The high could soar all the way to 19.

The snowblower got staged from the shed to the front porch last night; it's fueled and ready to go when the time comes.

It'll be another day of the usual, which once again has begun to include some time on the spin bike. Weight loss, strength / endurance gains, and cardiac fitness benefits aside, doing a ride every day may help me beat this chronic sleepus interruptus pattern I've developed of late. We'll see.

Other than that, I got nothin'.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them.

Good morning, and thanks for the coffee start, Keith.

It's 1f here, rising to 12f. Clear sky will become partly cloudy.
Our snow isn't expected until midday tomorrow.

I did my gym thing, yesterday, and took the neighbor's dog out for a shorter than normal walk. Only 2 miles.
We went to our favorite local Mexican restaurant for dinner, but stopped at the grocery store, first.
HOLY MOLY! We couldn't find parking, with all the people there. I ended up dropping her off and finding a spot in the local HD lot. I can't imagine what the crowds will be like, today.

Today, the plan is to hang out at home.

Enjoy the day,
Steve

I don't need an inspirational quote...
I need coffee...
it gives me the illusion of control, and I respect that... :coffee:

G'Day...

-1°/0°C, gray, overcast, sleet predicted for late afternoon/evening...

quadruple Nesspresso-ed... ☕
soft boiled hen-fruit 🥚, slightly toasted, self-baked white bread 🍞, warm & buttered 🧈, with a sprinkle of sea-salt🧂
I'm stuffed... for now... but already mulling over options for lunch... ;)

Arriving at the GF's place, shortly before 2200hrs last evening was a bit of a stunt...
Didn't notice much in the small alley with the trusty Toyota... no signs during 3-point u-turn & parallel parking...
But once I'd put my foot down to disembark the vehicle... WOHA!!!...
freezing drizzle put an invisible, thin layer of black ice over everything... 🧊
so carefully waddling through the dark 🌃 like a 🐧 to not land on my arse... :cautious:

also not much planned for today, GF rummaging here and there in the house...
methinks I'm gonna reload the bird-feeder... 🐦🐦‍⬛

enjoy the weekend! 😎

Morning all!

Thinking of Sadlsor's comments about us sending you poor weather, it came to me most of the poor weather we have comes UP from the states vs across Canada. Must be something in the air?

It's current based on this temperature map map: Darker is better, lighter is colder. 🥶

1769259509791.png

For those more empirically based, here it's -20/-31 and sunny, headed to -15/-26.

Tweaked my back out last night somehow, and when I managed to get upstairs to lie in bed to see if that helped, the cat had left a present of hork in the bed. I ended up sleeping on the office floor while Mrs. Obo washed all the linens and sanitized the mattress, bless her soul. Joys of pet ownership. Better than one of my coworkers who arrived at work the other day a mess. I found her in front of the sink with a bottle of Lysol wipes, her coat soaking wet. I thought spilled coffee? Nope. She went to drop her baby off at daycare and when she went to take him out of the carseat he projectile vomited all over her and the car. Cleaning baby vomit from your car in -12 is no fun from what I was told.

Well, enough about regurgitation. Hows your day? Obo's wanna know.

Enjoy, and keep warm if it's cold out there!

Obo.

Haven't had French Roast in a short while, so thanks for the change-up Keith.
I was going to ask if you'd share your toothbrush, but obviously you'd already factored in that unpleasant possibility. Good on ya.

I don't really mind being blamed for your weather woes, @Obo , because I have a very responsible job.
Anytime anything goes wrong, it seems I'm responsible.
That's ok, I'm used to it.
A Harley dealer down the highway had planned a chili cookoff for today, but moved it back a couple weeks once all the weather worries became more pronounced. Now it seems only the northern part of Alabama will have to deal with any icing, maybe a little snow.
It strikes me that Huntsville and the surrounding areas lean more towards Tennessee weather than Birmingham's (The Magic City) which stands to reason... the Rocket City (being Huntsville) is much closer to @Nashcat (residing near the Music City) than to me.
I don't expect those of you unfamiliar with the geography of these southern United States to go rummaging through your garage looking for that tattered old, dogeared, marked-upRand McNally road atlas you haven't seen in 15 years. You can take my word for it.
Heck, I even know where Michigan and Montana are, even though I haven't been to either one in years.
But I need to.
If it weren't for want of the simple things (like not enough time or money), I would take off tomorrow for a 3 month tour of the USA, including Alaska.
Well, that's not exactly true.
I would wait until probably May.
Hey, a fella can dream...
Reminds me of Joni Mitchell (Free Man in Paris)...
"I was a free man in Paris, I felt unfettered and alive
There was nobody calling me up for favors
And no one's future to decide
You know I'd go back there tomorrow
But for the work I've taken on
Stoking the star maker machinery behind the popular song"
Or... Bob Seger (Against The Wind)...
"Well, those drifter's days are past me now
I've got so much more to think about
Deadlines and commitments
What to leave in, what to leave out"
Anyway, let's go eat a Snickers, and have No Regerts.

Good Morning, woke up at 5 am, Mind hamsters again, so got up had a nice long Shower, made Breakfast, looking at Clock, need to open Airport gate in 15 minutes. Hopefully this afternoon will be going for a ride on the self propelling bike. Yesterday took my Blue Bicycle out for a ride, dang sure need more Cardio . Have a great weekend, G

G'morning all, and thanks much for the steaming mug of java, Keith.

I suspect there will be more steaming mugs throughout my day because baby, it's cold outside. It's currently -24°C/-11°F with a feels-like of -37°C/-35°F, and that will only increase by a couple of degrees today, both in terms of actual temperature and windchill. Then the temps will rise juuust enough to allow us to "enjoy" all that snow everybody's talking about, which will blanket us from tomorrow afternoon through to Monday evening. Sun's shining right now though, and the groceries and errands are all done, so I'll fill up my mug again and admire it from this side of the glass.

When I opened my laptop this morning, I, too, was greeted by a similar map to the one Obo posted, showing a stunningly vast area the colour of a fresh bruise. Interesting thing about that map, though: for the Canadian cities along the St. Lawrence River, it shows Quebec (City) and Trois-Rivières, and then jumps straight to Ottawa! Montreal, which is bigger than all three of those cities and is the largest port in Eastern Canada, is nowhere to be found! ?? That's not a complaint, I just find it very curious!

Anyhoo, everybody have a good one, stay safe, stay warm and if you must go, go safely.

Patty

Perhaps that's because, while everyone knows what's happening in Montreal by virtue of the fact that they live there, nobody knows anything about the (nearly empty) hinterlands and may therefore be curious. :)

Fair enough, but it's exactly the same map that greeted Obo, who's in New Brunswick! Lol!

@Peppermint it may be AI generated. I saw a map of North America on a work presentation the other day, with an arc line showing the distance from San Francisco to Halifax. (similar to what a flight path would look like.) It was labelled with the cities and the distance between them. However, the pins for the start and stop were located somewhere in Arizona and Maine based on the map.....

I woke up to snow all over this morning. Not much though... just enough to make the streets white but not enough to cover the grass. We are at the very fringe of this weather system. We're getting the cold temps but not the precipitation expected points south and east... and far east  . It was only -5*F when I woke up and now all the way up to -3*F at 10:48 am.

Good morning all!
Thanks for the thaw out this AM, Keith!

I would like to thank everyone for the support I’ve received!
I’m headed south shortly, almost have things in order here. Next is our place in North Fort Myers!
-24c here when I picked up my pal for coffee at the general store.

For those of you with spouses, please have the end of life talk! When it’s happening, it’s far too late!
Thankfully we had that discussion!!!

Morning Keith & All, from a somewhat white morning, in Southern Utah!

I say, somewhat, because, it's somewhat!

20260124_snow.jpg

I doubt if we'll get it much worse! ;)

Currently it is 30F, up from 28F and going to 35F. The winds have been blowing from the NE@ 10 to 13mph. The snow is still coming down but really light. What's out there is already melting.

Chris even sent me a picture of her Quilt Retreat location, that they had less snow than we have.

@ only 35F, it will be another day to just sit inside and play on my computer.

Eggs, bacon, toast & OJ to start the morning. Pepsi(s) will be had in a bit.

Anyone :dr13:, have a great day on the roads! :hat3:
