Double Agree!
Would be nice to be able to just crack the shield and ride that way at speed. As it is (was) mine will hold itself open upto 50mph, then slam shut.
Word back on mine is they think it was a fluke... so they are replacing it under warranty...
Wonder if I can be so lucky as to get a new EVO model????

Mines way past warranty I'm sure, but they're going to replace the helmet because it snaps shut @ speed?
I wish Papa, but no, they are going to replace it because the outer shell is ripping. Earlier post here for pictures.
Just saw that RevZilla is showing the new 104Evo's, they are doing pre-order.
I asked the distributor about the ones for sale already and they said they are not certified for import to the US, may not meet DOT specs.

All kidding aside, I do really like the 104, but it won't accommodate my Sena Bluetooth.
Anyway, I just picked up a brand-spanking-new RPHA 10 last night, with paint to match my ST. This helmet is ultra-light and very comfy inside.
I'll order the RPHA Max soon, which is the flip-up version.
Mine SMH10 has been dutifully stuck to the side of my N104. 19+ months, 30k+ miles, countless rain storms.
I was just thinking of moving from the tape mount to the clamp method by cutting the slot in the neck trim. Glad I didn't. Might have voided the warranty that right now is proving very usefull.
But the tape has stuck very well the whole time. I did add a second piece of tap under one section of it where the mount wasn't sitting real flush with the shell. Did that when I first installed it and never had an issue.
Hmmm. I've been leery about using the tape mount. I might have to reconsider after reading your feedback.
When I pulled out the tape mount from the box, I thought, "with my luck, it'll certainly pop off with our summer heat!"
I'm looking at St Louis weather right now ... 82* with 37% humidity ... are you KIDDING me? Send some of that our way ...
Could one of you guys that have used the tape method of installing your comm system please post a pic of this? The fact that the sunvisor control is right where I need to clamp the Cardo ScalaRider has prevented me from purchasing the N104. I have been wondering about the tape method but like some of you I was worried that it would not hold up in the heat, humidity, and rain of South Louisiana.
I personally switched from the N103 to a Shoei Neotec but Dear Old Dad really likes his Nolans and wants to try the N104. The fact that the Neotec only comes in solid colors or the HiViz Borealis and the lack of Nolan's wonderful little ratchet latching mechanism for the chin strap keeps him coming back to the N104. I would hate to have to buy him the NCom system when we already have the Cardo.

This is not normal for us, but I like it!
Some folks have cut a small slice into the lower trim and used the clamp method.
But for tape. I just added an extra strip of 3M VHB to the trim strip around the neck. This helps make a smooth section for the tape mount to stick too. I use a Sena but the mounts should be similar.
VHB is pressure sensitive. It also needs time to adhere. But once stuck the stick id awesome. In regards to the Louisiana heat (I have spent summer time in Jennings) it will hold. Don't go prying on it while hot, but it'll hold. My helmet sits inside my top-case through the day with sun shining on it, so it's getting baked pretty good while I'm at work. Pull on it then and it might come loose but it's still stable.

I moved it a little more forward than the last time. I popped out the N-Com plug so I could sit flush over it.
Again, double the tape over the neck trim.
It goes without saying that the helmet should come inside with you - heat destroys the interior.
The added benefit is when putting on the helmet - nice and cool. The g\f discovered this. When we stop somewhere, I always bring the helmet inside - she always puts hers in the top case ... recent comment: "now I know why you bring your helmet inside".
T_C, thank you for taking the time to post those pics. When I installed the Cardo on our N103s I drilled two tiny holes in the lower skirting of the helmet and used the clamp bolts without the inside backing plate. I am mostly worried about the boom mike being long enough to reach if it is set behind the sunvisor actuation tab. Your pics show that it will probably reach.
Another question I should have asked earlier: How much room is there in the chin area? The N103 had almost no room and the mike is constantly rubbing against the chin. The N104 looks like this is improved.

Okay, different factors in play now.
I used a Cardo G4 before and the mic boom was going to be short. That among other issues drove me to the Scala. The unit I bought uses a boom microphone but the boom doesn't come straight off the headset base. It has a 2" wire and then a base. That way you can mount the unit further back and still have the boom mic sit in front of the mouth. It also came with a wired mic that could be mounted in the chin-bar but I heard they don't work as well as the boom mic in noise cancellation.

Yeah... saying it now I realize how dumb it is.
The helmet is cool by the time I return. From 13:00 on the bike and trunk are in shade.
Wonder if that contributed to my pre-mature failure. They didn't say the shell was brittle or anything.

Well in a nice stroke of luck, it seems I will get a new EVO as my warranty replacement. The N104 I sent in for repair was on of the multi color painted helmets. All the distributor has left in stock are the solid colors. I'll have to wait a month for the EVO's to arrive in the US (the whole factory/warehouse is down for holiday).
In the meantime I did buy an on-sale helmet, so I'll have both 104's to compare.

Evo appears to have upgraded ventilation. Larger intake on chin is one clue.
Just got a call that my new N104-EVO is en-route to the house.
