Old Enough To Remember?

Four prop airliners, air raid siren tests, party lines, blimps, Sputnik, John Glenn, John Wayne, the first (LP records, FM stereo, color tv, lasers, microwaves, calculators), Hodaka, Bultaco, Greeves, Tote Gote, Super 90, Big Bear, 305 Dream, 250 cc was a big bike.

Test patterns after channels went off the air for the night . . . along with the steady irritating test tone. Made you want to turn the TV off! Smart eh?

I also remember the station playing the National Anthem just before this test pattern appeared at midnight.

I remember one of those when 4 of us drove out to the Grand Canyon in 1973 from Tennessee.
Nothing much at the South Rim in those days except the Grand Lodge.

Back in the early 80's we checked into an 'elderly' motel somewhere in the New Mexico countryside just after midnight. Road construction had caused us to detour and this was the first motel we encountered during the detour. The bed had one of these installed so we gave it a try. 25 cents in....nothing. We climbed into bed and the thing woke up. The noise and bouncing were similar to tossing an old crankshaft into a spinning dryer. We watched the rest of the five minute gyrations off the bed.
