Adding a printer was serial or parallel, odd or even parity, baud rate, port #, all OS programmed by hand. God forbid you had to download a photo by modem and print - better have a spare hour or two for a soppy but colorfully smeared result. But oh, the pride of doing it yourself!

I thought I had arrived when I got a 300 baud modem and a Trash 80 terminal.
I could fix 'overnight' problems in my PJS instead of driving in!
