OLYMPIA AST CLEANING

JohnnyRide

I bought one of the AST and one of the Airglide jackets and the cleaning instructions are shown below. The question is, those who have these, are you actually washing them in this fashion or have you discovered a better way on the AST jacket? Hand washing this beast isn't that attractive to me, but if I must......

Care Instructions
Vent Tech outer shell - AST, Voyager, Phantom, Ranger 2, Pro Max.
Hand wash cold - mild detergent - hang dry.
Vent Tech liner - Machine wash cold gentle cycle - cool dryer setting

Mesh Tech outer shells - Airglide, Patton, Nova, Bushwhacker.
Machine wash cold - mild detergent gentle cycle - cool dryer setting.

the easiest way to wash I have found is a long drenching ride in the rain.:D

Matt,

How about soiled areas such as around the collar area from closing the top neck flap? Pre soak recommendations?

I handwashed mine (according to Olympias instructions) a while back. Had to use some elbow grease, but looked good when it was all dried up.

I believe the danger in machine washing has something to do with rubbing off (some of/all of) the reflective material associated with 3M reflective portions of the clothing.
I've worn my Olympia gear hard and washed it twice in the machine. I do see signs that the reflective component of the 3M material is starting to fail. It may just be 50,000 plus miles on the jacket. I don't wear the pants as often and the reflective material is holding up fine.

Ditto on the machine wash. Take the pads out turn them inside out and throw them in the washer. Hang them out in the garage to dry.
